PMS GTN 750 Premium worth it?

Featured Replies

Does the TDS intergrate like the PMS one does in the new 414? Thinking of buying the 414 as my only twin hence why I like the PMS.

Yes, it can use either the PMS or TDS, there are versions configured for both.

Good morning RandallR...I know this is an old post, but I'm trying to find out if the PMS 750 subscription supports Navigraph Charts in Europe...will you see European Approach Charts overlay on the 750?

I believe that is one thing the real 750 does not currently do...

It looks like you've had several responses to this, but, yes - if you have the full-featured PMS 750 and a Navigraph subscription the charts are displayed in the device throughout the world.  I've heard good things about the TDS version but haven't used it yet.  I'll give it a try in the coming weeks.

I believe PMS has stated that once the WT team has fully integrated the Garmin system into FS2020, the PMS version will perform pretty close to RW.  Right now, even though it carries the issues of the FS2020 FP system, they've incorporated good work-arounds and the simple touch screens make it far easier to manipulate than the NXi, so I can usually handle any issues with a few taps on the graphic menus.

Well, when is this "once" going to be? In six months, a year, two years? I don't like buying an addon that relies on another company to make things work.

I have both TDS and GTN750, for some reason I think I lean toward TDS and vacating PMS after this years sub expires.

Yeah the pms50 premium and Navigraph subscription work nicely together.

It works in Europe as well.

They plan on adding more wtt support as well. The TDS looks great as well but it doesn't add much for me in terms of realism (for me!).

The TDS is far more realistic and featured like the Real Garmin. Far better than the PMS pseudo GTN.

I own both units and although the TDS is more capable, I really enjoy having wx radar with the PMS -even if it's just Asobo weather. Something to be said about trip planning around active weather systems and seeing them enroute. Hopefully TDS will figure out a way to either tap into Asobo weather or come up with something external.

I'll admit, the weather radar is not to be frowned at.

If you already have the Navigraph anyway (or are going to purchase it), then it really does not apply...except that the European approach charts will not work in the TDS version.

Since I fly across the world (not just the US), it would be nice to display the European charts in the GTN. I'm not saying this is my only consideration, but well worth considering.

I really do appreciate being able to call up the chart I need within the unit - whenever I fly with the NXi I simply keep the Navigraph Chart app running in a separate window and alt-tab to it.

The great thing about the PMS and WT g3000 mods is being able to read the chart at the same time I am accessing switches and controls.  I don't have to close the chart window in order to change a setting.

Compared to the premium version of it? I am not sure if I'd call it a pseudo GTN. I wouldn't know the difference. Hence my wording....it doesn't or wouldn't add much for me. Plus, I like using its touchscreen abilities in the sim in the virtual cockpit. Oh, having weather radar is kind of neat as well. Oh, and following the usual navigraph SID/STAR and approaches, airport information, terrain, you the usual stuff etc... all on the pms50. Is it perfect and missing some things? yes. So is the GTN, unfortunately. I think once the kinks work out they both will be awesome.

Man, the flight sim community is very "this or that" huh? To some, they hate some things and say it breaks immersion. To some, they enjoy it. I don't need every little fancy thing because I have pilot2atc as well. To each their own. If TDS also allowed Navigraph integration and wasn't limited by the core of the simulator, then maybe I'd consider it. But so far, it hasn't impressed me yet. Better? Maybe. If it is for you, then good. You do you. I like having charts around Europe.

Why?

Navigraph has an in-game panel that you can call up to view the charts and overlay the plane on them. (Don't forget to start simlink to do this).

I've you ever used the Flight1 or the RealityXP versions of the GTN 750, or the real thing, you'd understand why many simmers are reluctant to go for the PMS version - the differences between the two versions have been discussed many times, so no need to rehash them here.

Btw, this is not to say that the developer of the PMS version isn't doing an outdoing job, he is, and he is very upfront about what his unit can and cannot do.

For me, it comes down to, well, how can I put it: it's like having dated a super model, and now you have to make do with the local prom queen - you see what I'm saying?

I have both the TDS and PMS premium version.  The TDS is more like the real unit, so when flying in the USA I always use it.  When flying in Europe I use the PMS with embedded Navigraph charts.  I use Foreflight EFB on an iPad Mini so all my charts are displayed on the iPad.

I recommend both of them.
