Guys please pardon my ignorance but what's the point of having a military aircraft on a civilian simulator? I feel that im missing something here. In the sim, this is an aircraft to do exactly what?

Those of you who are excited by it, what kind of uses will you do?

A perennial question 🙂.

First, the term « military » covers a wide spectrum of aircraft today in MSFS, from a Corsair or Spitfire or P-38 to a G-91 or soon a T-1 !

But all have in common to have their own structural characteristics which make them interesting to fly : powerful radials, short wings etc... They are much less forgiving than your gentle 172. No nonsense like an autopilot 😁. You have to fly them and fly them well... or else. And take care of your engine ! Sloppiness is not an option.

For instance I look forward to the F-104 because of her high speed of landing (175 kn) and the small margin of AoA she allows at take off. A dangerous plane.

I am no pacifist  but I don’t look forward to weapon delivery in MSFS, you are right it is and I add should stay a civilian simulator, but I look forward to interesting unusual aircraft.

Let say that flying warbirds is an acquired taste. Beware of trying you might be hooked 😉.

Doninique sums it up well, but to add,

I do agree in that flying a F-14 - F-16 F-18 etc are pointless in MSFS and DCS is the sim for them. Also what ones are in MSFS are imo nothing but poor toys. I would not even DL if they were free.

But I enjoy the Corsair/Spitfire MKI and MKIX becasue in real life they dont goto war anymore and are used for air shows or just simple enjoyment, hence for me they fit perfectly within MSFS.

Also there far harder to fly than a very boring 152-172.

Lastly and on topic, this is a trainer, for pilots to get into jets, so its also a perfect fit.

So as always is down to personal taste. Fly what suits you and you enjoy the most.

Go and watch the thunderflies on almost any of twotonemurphy streams on YouTube or twitch, and tell me that having military aircraft in msfs isn't great. The Hawk aircraft should be even better as they can reproduce the Red Arrows display team in the sim.

Please pardon me but according to the title it's a Flight simulator and as such is something that can and should encompass as many types of aviation as possible, and one of the franchise's strengths is allowing users to explore, customize and enjoy the rich tapestry of aircraft, systems and possibilities that have developed since the days of first flight.  That easily includes military aircraft in the mix and although it stops short of combat flight for other reasons it doesn't mean they should be excluded since there are peacetime uses as well.

What's the point of trying to re-brand this platform to exclude certain segments?  Narrowing the scope for yourself is fine, and expected, but modifying the title to match only your personal expectations of a "Civilian" flight simulator and asking the user base why their expectations are different from yours is akin to asking why we all don't follow your other personal beliefs, attend your same church or vote for your favored politician.

"That's what" - She

FSX also has a wide range of Military aircraft for it, both payware and freeware. MSFS isn't unique in this regard.

Heck the FSX Acceleration expansion added an F-18.

It's a flight simulation, military aircraft fly.

I wonder if the JF Hawk will come with an RCAF skin, if not I'm sure someone will make one, there's one for the Goshawk on flightsim.to.

I'll do both of the RCAF ones I did for the Goshawk.

Ryzen 9800X3D, RTX 5090, 64GB, Win 11. MSFS2020. Moza, MFG, Fulcrum & Virpil controllers. Quest 3 for VR.

Many of us like to fully simulate flying... IFR or otherwise. However, I enjoy flying fast airplanes that are simulated properly at low altitudes. This will be a great airplane to take in the sights at high speeds, and hop from airport to airport. Put on some tunes, pick a mountainous region... and go. Hours will pass by! This little jet is the perfect way to do it.

Latest video here showing setting up and take-off.  A longer version of this showing the plane being configured for take-off will be live tomorrow and a new sounds video will follow too.

Enjoy those sounds!

Just to be a sourpuss...if this IS a completely new development and not just a port of the P3D version then surely the discount should be applied to all of your Hawk customers…

No problem.  I have answered you over on the FS forums but to reiterate.  Same policy as was adopted with the Arrows and the Warrior. It’s not amiss of me to say the P3D version will have been the starting point for this development as doing that makes sense, it gives us a foundation to start from. That’s kind of where the similarities end though.

Do we have an ETA on release for this?

The answer could be related to air show attendance. Let's say you have two airshows near your city. One has typical civilian aircraft.  The other has old warbirds or modern jet trainers. To which airshow will the crowds gather? It would be like the difference between watching race cars zooming along a highway near you, or normal cars in their normal traffic patterns. Simulation driving and flying is related to watching the real thing.

5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB  PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. Crystal Light VR.

Part of the allure of a Simulator is flying airplanes you will never fly in real life. Also, different types of airplanes have different challenges. The hawk will be a fun one to tour in, and seems to be well modelled in terms of systems and sounds. Day one purchase for me. We don't really have a solid jet in the sim right now.

Besides "the need 4 speed", "airshows", "formation flying" or "the chance to fly an aircraft most people don't even get to sit in for 10 seconds", the main purpose seems to be making kids between 35 and 66 years go on multiplayer to feel like the second coming of Chuck Yeager when they bounce wildly through busy airspace and buzz other players trying to find the runway on international airports. 🙂

I don't get the hate... Some of the most fun I had in FSX was in the Lotus Sim L39,flying mountain valleys, finding airports to land at, making my way across a country. Or in the Iris Texan 2.... both "military" airplanes. The Hawk will give a similar experience.
