So the consensus is SU6 was a good patch?

I normally start at a gate - or parkIng ramp when using a GA aircraft.

I am starting at both, and no landings are logged, just takeoffs.

FWIW, I always terminate a flight at a gate or GA parking spot as well. For me, landings have (almost) always been recorded, but I only started seeing takeoffs since SU6 was installed.

Only positive thing I see on my side is that they brought back the auto-hide for the handlebar widget... at last, 3 months after SU5.

On the other hand, panning in the cockpit is not fluid anymore and see more small stutters.

I've been using one of my work systems that has a 3090 for the last couple of days, and I think you're right about a change since SU6. The 3090 no longer requires me to change VR render scale settings before flying (which was needed on Both 3080 and 3090 prior to update) for the settings I prefer to use, where the 3080 still needs the changes before flight. Also, maybe the 3090 has now gained some additional smoothness over the 3080.

Just to explain the render scale change above - although I intend to fly with VR msfs render scale set to 100, before most flights I need to change the scale from 100 to 105, apply it, then change it back to 100 and apply, to be able to have a stutter free flight.

Can't be absolutely sure yet and will keep testing

FWIW, I discovered by deleting and letting MSFS rebuild FlightSimulator.CFG and UserCfg.opt, then resetting all back to Ultra+ restored the prior VRAM use in large part...

When I don't use Dev Mode toggle the logbook always works perfectly--but can't stand the microstutter that happens w/ the white logging spinner so I almost always toggle Dev Mod on and off.

The white spinner in the lower right corner, is that related to the logbook only? I've barely seen that thing until SU6, now it's spinning every second and it's really annoying.

Any way to get rid of it?

Yes you can stop it by simply going into General Options, then Developer, then simply toggle Dev Mode On, then immediately OFF, then resume your flight.  You have to do this within a flight (at the gate for example), not while in the World Map planner before starting your flight.   The plus side is the spinner will disappear during your flight, and the downside is the flight won't be logged.  I don't hear others complain about this but for me almost every appearance of the spinner generates a microstutter, hence I do the Dev Mode toggle for all flights now except after a major update will see if they solved this issue by not doing the toggle.

Thanks! I wish we could turn off the logbook mode, it's definitely full of bugs.

Another issue I have with it, is that when I've shut down the aircraft, turned off Battery, it pops up. But when I click Continue, the sim spawns a 2nd cockpit which is Z-fighting with the other one. It's ridiculus. This also started happening with SU6.

Yes it's a work in progress, but hopefully by now all should agree things continue improving sometimes by leaps and bounds, and yes with a few setbacks along the way.  I'm stoked with how the core engine is working now it's just fabulous!

False alarm regarding fps difference between 3080 and 3090. However, I can confirm the 3090 no longer needs the VR render scale adjustment prior to flight 👍

Noel - I deleted my cfg files as you mentioned, but 3080 still needs the tweak. Was worth a try.

Just an odd observation:

I loaded up at a random airport, but the FPS was low and somewhat stuttery. I couldn't figure out why, until I noticed the ATC window had opened up undocked on a different monitor. Moving it to the simulator and docking it resulted in a huge performance uplift again. At least 15-20 FPS.

Maybe one thing to check if someone is having bad FPS and don't know why.

The draw distance after SU6 is on another level. I don't think we've had this good of a draw distance since the launch, at any update.

I loaded up at Miami Executive (KTBM freeware from flightsim . to) airport, and had a look around. I could see the entire Miami skyline! This is the first time I've seen the skyscrapers at this distance. This really was a wow moment for me. 😍

After SU5 + Hotfix, I would enter LOD 4.0 in the UserCfg.opt file, and from Miami Executive I could see one or two melted buildings in the distance.
After SU6 and LOD 400 / 200 in the menu, the entire skyline is visible. Clearly something has been changed "behind" the sliders.

For me, this means a lot. It really enhances the experience. So thank you for improving it, Asobo.

I took a snapshot from the drone, and the whole skyline is visible. It's visible from the ground too, but usually hidden behind a tree or a building. This is amazing.

It is still early but this update installed without issues and I no longer have any stutters. The sim is butter smooth, I can see plenty of aircraft, and everything on ultra (except terrain lod is 300) and things look really good so far. The graphics improvements are noticeable. I will do a few more test flights over the next few days but this update looks really good on my end.
