So the consensus is SU6 was a good patch?

To be honest, it's most likely the rolling cache that made the difference, to remove data that might now be incompatible and start afresh. Would have been interesting to see if only doing that and not touching other settings had the same effect.

Agreed - that plus the fact the sim maybe rebuilding shaders (similar to P3D) on first launch after an update.

Clouds -- this is an interesting one. I sometimes see "pixelated" clouds, and that's been true with all iterations of the code, but more often than not I don't see any pixelation, or it will be barely noticeable on a few cloud edges in certain lighting conditions here and there. Most of the time (for me), they look spectacular, with no artifacts that I can see. But I can't say why I (and, I'm sure, others) don't always have issues with cloud artifacts, as it sounds like some users invariably do.

I've got to say, I think what they've done with cloud rendering is phenomenal, and something I presumed my GPU would never handle, considering how other games struggle with particle effects on a smaller scale.

I mean, contemporary hardware is still limited and you're not going to find perfection and absolute realism yet, so I think, all things considered, Asobo's achievement is astonishing in this area.

It seems, though, with people's varying experiences, we must be looking at an issue with potentially finding the right settings for our hardware configuration, the hardware itself, could even be particular drivers (I haven't installed the latest NVIDIA driver yet), the display... I'm not sure.

Is there a way to delete the shader cache like we did after P3D updates? I don't recall having seen this mentioned for MSFS.

Kind regards, Michael

thanks Noel it take much more Vram now what gone happen 18nov Dx12.

This will be very critical to watch and see what happens.  I'm not certain yet we will see more VRAM in use w/ DX-12 and part of this belief is that Xbox Series X only has 10Gb of VRAM dedicated for GPU use, and I would think they would need to be respectful NOT to reduce capability by changing code to impact Xbox users any more than they already are.  I definitely DO NOT want to swap out 3080Ti for 3090 just for VRAM and 2.5lbs more weight!!!!!!  But yes, we'll see pretty soon...

Don't believe directly Michael, but the disk cleanup utility does have an option to clear directx shader cache.

Lighting is approximately 1973.3x better in ultrawidescreen. I cannot begin to tell you how happy that makes me feel (lights were previously stretched big blobs, a known issue with scaling!) 😁

Yes totally agree. I did my first flight last night and the lights around the airport were no-longer blobs as you perfectly described, they are now like they should be. And the night lighting once in the air was absolutely spot on. It looks amazing! And very very smooth. Not so much as a single hiccup. I don't know how they made it smoother. But it is. All ultra settings distance still at 200. (I have yet to try 400..Next flight...)

the 3080ti is very very good , think they have the 12gb vram to not kill the sales of the 3090, i have tested a ES 3080TI with 24gb ram it was very very close to the 3090, it was in the middle of march this year, but not impossible that they release a card with 24gb after, if the rumored 3090ti gone be released.

Uneventful for me so far, as usual…Steam.

Is anyone seeing more than a couple of other aircraft (AI or MP) when flying after SU6?

I counted 18 (maybe 19) Real-Time traffic at EGLL a few hours ago.

Try to experiment with which server you're connected to, the West Europe server have not been showing Real-Time traffic for me since the update.

Works well for me but I have not  altered any files in MSFS. Best update so far.

Me too, Bob...gawd, but I am loving MSFS now...having a BLAST!   Performance has me shaking my head, considering I don't have the most powerful up-to-date hardware on the planet.  My FPS at Ultra (plus) is 30/31, and now is the best performing flight sim on my system.   That includes P3D 5.2 and XP11 (most current).   For myself,  SU6 has been magic!  That's with all Ultra setting 'goodies'!!!!!

It's a bit of Asobo Magic isn't it? Yep!

Glad we don't have to do that with MSFS.Works fine after updates.

Gee, I thought Steam was the solution to all install and update woes.  Oh well, another internet rumor bites the dust...

Got the update, no issues, working well.  Turns out it was not on the Steam side but on the MS side with their servers going down.  Other than that, it was the usual 'plug and play' from Steam - not a problem at all.

Thanks for your observations - to answer your first point - age.  I no longer have the patience or mental agility to go searching for the necessary drivers, and neither do I any longer have up to date knowledge that I had during the 80s and 90s - sadly.  I therefore rely on the auto driver updater, which does a better job than I could do.

As for the second point - that my graphics card barely meets minimum standards.  Any financial donations are welcome:-)  I live in the North of England and can barely afford my heating - my 25 year old car is on its last legs - and at £1.54 per litre for E5 petrol, driving it is just about possible once in  a while.

Finally - yes you are correct about FS1 - back in 1982 I only had a ZX Spectrum.  Wasn't there an earlier version still 1n 1979 on Apple?

I wasn't trying to offend you as we can only go by your post on your IT knowledge, FS history  and systems specs. Forums post don't contain personal situations or feelings. I first got into Flight Simulator (Sublogic FS1) by Bruce Artwick in 1979 when my dad purchased our first computer Apple II. I'm also up there in age.
