Navigation Data?

Featured Replies

So I would like to have a uniform navigation data ... How can I achieve this ?

I use MSFS, P2A and simbrief ...

So basically when I make a flight plan in simbrief I import it to P2A then later in the airplane I usually use FMC to import it from SB to the aircraft FMC... I use A320 FBW, modes 787, and salty 747 mod which also allowes you import from SB.

Step1  1. Simbrief to P2A is not usually a problem.

Step 2. Set up SID and STAR in P2A

Step 3. Here's where the problems begin.... Importing the flight plan into FMC usually is not an issue but once I start looking for SID and STAR to match my P2A I often find your that they are not available, many times the ones available in FMC are nowhere close to what I chose in P2A...

In addition I noticed (need more to verify for certain) that sometimes A320 FBW will have the SID/STAR while 787 using HeavyMod will not.... Why is that are they not suppose to both take data from inside the MSFS ? Which then should be the same for all FMC on all Aircraft ? I will need to verify this but I am pretty sure I have observed this correctly. Does the FMC of these aircraft actually takes data from MSFS or somewhere else ?

Solution ?

I am not really interested to sign up for Navigraph on monthly basis "way overpriced IMO" and I am not sure it would even solve my problem.

I am not all that interested on having all the latest and greatest data, but what I want is uniform data amongst these that I use for my flight planning.

Would signing up for their service just for one month give me data that I can use forever and it will be identical and stay identical for all Simbrief, P2A and MSFS so that I never have a problem like I described.

Thanks for any suggestions.

in your cockpit ........ ??

for now, cheers

That's the idea, yes. you have to have suitable file formats in the right places for everything. Example: The aerosoft CRJ has its own separate navdata. So you have to install your navigraph navdata into MSFS, the CRJ, P2A, and have them active in simbrief and everywhere else you want to use them.

This also means that when you buy new planes in the future and you have now downloaded the current cycle once (in all available formats), chances are you still don't have navdata in the format that your new plane requires then and have to buy and install in all those places again.

I canceled my navigraph subscription and I'm currently trying out the stock navdata. Makes me use simbrief much less, but so far it works quite good. Some approaches missing here and there, but that's not a huge issue for me.

I've tried out Navigraph as well, twice so far only to cancel after 1 month each time. It's great to have charts available so easily but I find their flight planner to be frustrating to use. Their mobile app on Android is slow and prone to disconnections forcing you to login again often. It seems like nothing in the app is cached on your mobile device.

I've reverted to stock sim data and using LittleNavmap for route planning. LittleNavmap has an excessively busy user interface but once you start getting used to it, it's not bad and it's free.

I mostly fly short routes so on the FBW A320 I usually just manually key the route in.

I use Avliasoft EFB and have for a few years. All Sids and Stars are in EFB, so no need to subscribe to anything. If it isn't in the sim, then EFB doesn't have it either. https://www.aivlasoft.com/

Oh yeah, I have to reinstall LittleNavmap, thanks @JSmith2112

I made the jump and bought an annual Navigrpah suscription because i also use the simionic g1000 software on 2 ipads (pfd and mfd)  wich use an up to date navigraph database. So i am able to follow sid and star and a complete route in auto mode even with old planes such as the DC-6 or Ju-52. Plus the ability to have the charts within the msfs tool bar is really nice.

I’ve been looking for something that’s not a subscription based, does this software have a database of charts? Meaning can I pull up approach charts and ils charts etc as you can with Navigraph?

It gets it's data base from either the data in MSFS or if you have downloaded data from Navigraph or the AEROSOFT data. One feature i really like is when you plan a flight, you can put the airports names in EFB, and if the airport is not one that is in MSFS, it tells you that right away, so you don't waste time planning a flight to a non existent airport. It shows taxi paths, parking spaces, ILS or Rnav or circling approaches, anything that you would want.

I would not be able to do without Navigraph anymore, it is a treat to be able to upload charts directly in the G3000 or GTN-750.

That is cool, I might try it, but to my understanding it simply reads existing Navigation Data, does not actually provide it. I see they have free trial definitely will look into it. if it works in VR that's a bonus if not i can keep it on desktop inside cockpit.

OH ! I am surprised you actually "reverted to stock data" were you not able to keep the cycle for the months (periods) you actually paid for to use with your LNM and MSFS?

I think they used to provide NavData for all software like PMDG, FSX, LittleNav Map, P2A and many others.. then you had to use their software (or manually) update cycle for them all but once you did you got to keep this cycle. Not sure if it changed or what.

Would that mean each airplane uses it's own NavData ? That would explain why I think I am getting more SID/STAR in FMC A320 FBW then in HeavyMod for the 787. I am yet to verify it for sure maybe something else changed but taking off from KMIA last night I would swear there was not one matching SID in FMC of 787 to what P2A had for me, yet using A320FBW few weeks ago all worked just fine same flight plan same SID.

Were you able to keep these (cycles) you paid for in your Simbrief or did they reset you back to the free one from year 2003 or whatever they give for free.

I might aske there too their support. I do not fly online so i dont care if new approach comes out or gets changed or anything. I only care that if i choose SID "ABC" and STAR "XYZ" they are there in my FMC of whatever aircraft I choose.. 9except if i buy a new aircraft some time in the future I get that. 🙂

Thanks

Yes, I also agree with the OP. I don't need to always have the latest nav data every month. You can do what you said and that's to subscribe to navigraph for a month to get the latest airac cycle for msfs and all your apps and it'll unlock the latest cycle in simbrief as well. You can cancel after that and just remain on that one cycle for as long as you wish.

I have used Aivlasoft EFB in the past with FSX/P3D and loved it. But how is it with MSFS? Last I heard that there are still some incompatibilities issue with getting certain features/limitations to work with MSFS which kinda held me back from getting it.
