I see something similar at EDLP airport (the free Aerosoft add-on from the Marketplace) - it used to be more pronounced though and has become quite bearable with with SU6.

It's not the same as the terrain loading stutters due to a low setting for off-screen pre-caching, which is on Ultra on my system. It just happens at one specific point when panning. It's like something is being loaded at that point, although it should stay in memory once it's loaded for the first time due to the pre-caching on Ultra.

Having the exact same issue at EDDW. And some other airports.

Sorry

Nvidia RTX3080. Precache slider to low resolves it. 😕

Ahhh I noticed the same in EDDW too, but that was still before SU6 I think. Haven't been there in a while, and it seemed to happen when looking towards the photogrammetry scenery in the city centre of Bremen. I'll check that one too later!

I also see it with the Phogrammetry in NYC at times.  Specifically over the Hudson river looking towards midtown and the Empire State building...

Exactly my observations. Switched my homebase from EDDW to EDDH due to this issue. xD

Are you using the default airports for KLAS or EKCH? Can you give a gate and heading where this happens? It's always easier to get others to reproduce the issue when you give simple and clear instructions 😉

For me it happens at EDLP Gate 2, panning to the left side of the cockpit, about 9 o'clock.

Would be interesting to see whether it's only AMD cards that are affected by this, I have a 6700XT.

I am observing a slight but very noticable stutter when the aircraft is changing the bank angle in order to fly a turn. At a certain degree during the rolling phase it stutters once. Very annoying.

Interesting!  I've also experienced slight stutter while panning/turning rapidly since SU5 and am wondering if it's just an issue with AMD graphics cards.  I'm running a RX6900XT, 5900X, 64GB setup (very similar to pilotter's).

Here are some of the characteristics that I've noticed:

  • When panning/turning a 360 degree circle, there is a pronounced long frame (maybe a quarter second or so) at one particular point.  All other things being equal, the stutter always occurs at the same point which is always opposite of the position of the sun... but about 20-30 degrees offset from the direct reciprocal (i.e. not directly opposite).  I also occasionally notice a shorter stutter on the other side of the reciprocal.  This can be confirmed by changing the time of day/sun position and noting that the stutter point has moved.  I suspect that it may have something to do with rendering shadows or reflections (which probably aren't cached); but that's just a theory.
  • The issue only occurs on the ground.  Once above about 50' AGL, the problem goes away.
  • Changing the pre-cache to LOW pretty much resolves the problem for me.  I no longer experience the stuttering and my system is apparently fast enough to avoid most of the culling/pop-ins/re-draws that I've seen so many others complain about.

I'm curious what others are experiencing... it took a while to convince myself to go against the grain and keep my pre-cache at the lowest setting; but it really does seem to be effective on my machine.

Holy smokes, I just confirmed your theory on the stutter being related to the position of the sun.

I loaded up a flight at KTMB, looked in the direction opposite of the sun, and that's where the stutter happens.
Then I moved the sun position to the opposite end (with time slider), and the stutter moved in relation with the sun position to the other side.

I tested with in cockpit view as well as drone view. Same thing happens.
I tested with different shadow settings and resolutions. Stutter persists.
You have a RX6900XT, I have an RTX3090. Same problem on both.
Tried with Low Latency mode in Nvidia Control Panel. No difference.

Bottom line: The stutter on the ground is related to the sun position and likely how the sun casts shadows.

Does anyone know if a support ticket has been filed on this? I've never filed a support ticket before, so might need some guidance.

for me it's also the terrain detail slider bringing me stutters around 200....

Thank you sir,

I've now submitted a ticket explaining the issue.

One thing I noticed just now when testing again, is that even if you slide the time (and sun) over the horizon, the stutter still appears in the opposite direction of it.
Meaning if it's pitch black night, and the sun is set and over the horizon, stutter still happens even if it's casting no shadows.

This is clearly an issue of astronomical proportions 😄

... maybe we've found a black hole

That's good to know.  Thanks for reporting it on Zendesk... I was hesitant to submit a bug report before verifying that it wasn't unique to certain hardware.

While not wishing performance issues on anybody, I'm actually glad to hear that it's not platform-specific (increases the chances that Asobo will look into it).  Obviously, there can be many reasons for stutters; but if the stutter always occurs at the same spot and disappears by increasing the altitude of the drone camera; there's a very good chance it's caused by the sun.  Since it's repeatable, hopefully it will be easier to discover a solution (especially considering it only started occurring in the last couple of updates).
