KBWI Departures

Featured Replies

I started a flight from KBWI this morning, runway 22, in the DC 6. Climbing out at around 2000 feet, the audio cut out for 2 seconds, came back and then a CTD. I restarted PC, and the same thing happened again two more times.  I had just installed the G 750-650 mod yesterday, so I figured that was the cause because I haven't had a CTD in about 6 months. I deleted the 750-650 mod from the community folder, and no help. I just started a fllight from another airport, KBDL, and no problems. Has anyone else seen this with just one airport?

I have not seen that myself, but have seen others report something similar at times. Suggest you try a default a/c from KBWI and see what happens.

the washington area is giving some trouble at the moment. I have tried to start flights out of kdca and having CTD before spawning the AC.

It's quite possible you're experiencing the Washington DC CTD issue.  I've flown in and out of KDCA & KIAD a couple times and have been fortunate to not CTD yet.  I'm waiting for updates like everybody else though and keeping away from DC for now.

I've had several consecutive CTD's in the area recently in the same exact spot...right after I pass over DCA going eastbound.  This was in the WT CJ4. I do have the DRZ Washington DC scenery addon including KDCA but that's about it.  That being said, I was able to depart KDCA off 19 in the FBW 320 yesterday on a westerly SID...in fact I have never had an issue departing or arriving at KDCA.  My issues seem to be when overflying.

There is a known bug in SU6 where the sim will CTD within about a 25 mile radius of Joint Base Andrews KADW, which affects most of the DC metro area.

One fellow on the MSFS forums did a lot of debugging and found the specific file in the core sim scenery that is causing the CTD. Unfortunately, I do not have a link to the forum post explaining how to find and disable that file. Disabling the file will cause some scenery objects to disappear in that area, but it will prevent the CTD.

Asobo has confirmed the bug and posted that it will be permanently fixed in the upcoming SU7 update.

Good info, I guess I will wait for the fix.  Thanks.

If anyone can't wait for the official patch to fix this, here's how to fix it now:

Go to folder

[path to MSFS]\Official\[OneStore] or [Steam]\fs-base-cgl\CGL\032

and remove file bldo010.cgl or rename it to say bldo010.cgl.bak

Just be sure to restore that file prior to updating with the official update when it is released.

The bldo010.cgl file shows up in about 20 locations on my system under:

C:\Users\......\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Packages\Official\OneStore\fs-base-cgl\CGL\

I follow you, but you split components of the path and that could be confusing.  Starting with where the Official folder is found the remainder of the path looks like this:

.......\Official\OneStore\fs-base-cgl\CGL\032

and the the file is in that 032 folder.

That is because "OneStore" does not appear in Steam versions. "Steam" does.

So, it would be ......\Official\OneStore\fs-base-cgl\CGL\032 for MSStore versions, and ......\Official\Steam\fs-base-cgl\CGL\032 for Steam versions.

You only need to be looking at the bldo010.cgl file that is in the fs-base-cgl\CGL\032 folder.

While there are files in other folders with the same name, they are not the same files.

It crashed because there is NO runway 22 at KBWI... Well, not in real life anyhow. 🤣

I can't believe that MSFS released with KBWI looking like it does. The improvements to runway 15R-33L were completed and it was returned to service at the end of 2014. Runway 4-22 actually had to be "upgraded" to meet current FAA standards for use as a taxiway. It was gone at the end of 2014 when it was converted to a taxiway.

If you fly IFR, none of the SIDs or STARS are available at KBWI due to 15R-33L being missing. I was able to add it in using the SDK and they work fine now.

Yeah....KBWI really is one of the worst major airports in the sim and I avoid it completely..  I hope Ricardo from LVFR can get his KBWI addon into MSFS.  Verticalsim also did BWI for XPL and they have been moving their XP airports into MSFS so we have 2 possibilities of an addon at some point. Hopefully we will see one of them soon...first one to release it gets my cash on day one!
