More AIG thoughts

A file called trafficAircraft.bgl is renamed by the installer. That would be okay if there was an uninstaller that reversed it back but there isn't.

You mean changed from ON to OFF?  That is what you mean by changing the official folder?   So if you uninstall AIG and want everything back to default you remove it from your community folder and change one file from OFF back to ON.

Seems rather minor to me but if that is a show stopper for you then ok.

Yes, that's a bummer, I will wait to to install AIG until they have fix this and use Simple Traffic in the meantime.

Disabling the file is optional. There’s prompt asking you if you want to do it. Just hit no.

Anyways AIG discussion should probably be taken to the AIG thread.

This file is not easy to find its deep in. How many that have problems with the install and give up know about this? And those that at a later stage wanna change to another AI addon.

So now we have AIG fan boys  telling everyone else they are not very bright.....LOL

there is a simple fix. Just tell AIM on startup to not disable the default AI traffic file 😉

Will I have GA traffic if I choose not to disable the AI traffic file?

no you wont, unless you extract the GA traffic from it.

The issue in MSFS that you can no longer split "commercial" and "ga", you have to enable/disable both....

So if you want GA you have to keep it active, but get at the same time the "generic/a320" offline traffic....

Not really, we simply do not understand how aviation enthusiasts can possibly prefer a Ryanair A330-lookalike over correct looking Ryanair 737-800 you get for free with AIG... that is basically all. But then, everybody has a slightly different opinion about what is really important and necessary inside a flightsim, no? So, those who are happy with this slapped together addon using default A330-lookalikes all over the place with totally unmatching liveries, fine. Personally I would not pay a single cent for such an addon, but then, there are also people who buy the Bredok 737 Max 8, no?

Is your plan to include GA in the future when the SDK allows it?

It's not the SDK, the models just haven't been converted for MSFS use yet.

The flightplans are there, you can even install them now they just won't do anything yet. Just waiting for the models.

Well....

Out of curiosity, I did go ahead and install AIG this morning, and then I have had it running for an hour at JFK while I simply watched.

First, I got a lot of planes (Lots of Jet Blue especially) taking off, which is quite a difference from the no-takeoffs for the last few months

On the other hand....

Now I am seeing no landings! (Hmmmmm......)

The AI planes have seemingly a pretty low FPS impact: About 50 on high-end at JFK, but I see quite a bit of hitching, stuttering from the planes, I suspect from simconnect spamming?

If Aig can do this, then with its money/manpower, its hard to see why Asobo/Microsoft seems to be having such difficulty.

I think its a very nice stopgap (Ingenious, really) but ideally, I would probably prefer for Asobo to get its poop together on the issue of AI and have this functionality working natively.

We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... To the rest of the Universe atomically.

That's an issue with the sim's AI not AIG.

Offline traffic has the same issue players had during SU5 where the ATC is seeing them at the wrong altitude. So that can cause go arounds as the traffic won't descend in time to make a good landing. Online traffic doesn't have this issue for whatever reason.

JFK also has broken runway/taxiway connections that break traffic (offline and online as they both use the same system) and they will refuse to leave the runway, which will also cause go arounds until the sim deletes the offending aircraft.

Most likely from loading in new models/textures. some models are also still in mdlx format which the sim needs to convert on the fly, which will also cause stuttering.

Do you really think their having difficulty? I think it's just a case of not being at the top of their priorities list quite yet and when it is you can be sure it will be done well, will be kept compatible w/ SUs, will be tuned to respect performance impacts, etc.  All you have to do is look at the rest of their handiwork thus far to arrive as this conclusion.

It takes a bit initially for the landings to start. I also spent a good chunk of time during the day yesterday at SFO, they're landing. Not sure why they wouldn't at JFK.
I also noticed increased stuttering, will be monitoring this further and reporting at their message board.
