Rob Randazzo on PMDG 737 release date, interview Nov 22nd

Featured Replies

Great new interview on Sky Blue Radio podcast with Rob Randazzo, still listening to it while I type...

Key points so far:

- sales figures of the DC6 exceeded expectations by a large margin, sold more in 12 hours than ever before on all platforms

- pricing for the 737 is going to be a LOT lower than people expect, due to the size of the market

- release of the 737 is probably not gonna happen before Christmas, they're aiming for January 2022, but if they run into any major issues, it might get postponed till February

- it was the best decision to start over with a new engine in MSFS. Nothing of what we see now in terms of visuals would've been possible if Asobo had tried to maintain compatibility with FSX / P3D. Breaking changes were necessary to achieve what's possible in MSFS, and it was expected that some things take a while to iron out, and to finish the tools necessary for development.

- Microsoft / Asobo are very supportive in helping them out when there are problems they can't solve on their own

55 minutes of podcast here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qKadQrREujM

Not going to provide a transcript, I'll leave it up to you to add other interesting points to this thread. Just happy to share this interesting interview with everyone here!

a slap in the face to all those who say that to sell aircraft on the MSFS market you have to dumb them down. You know the dismissive line about the "flying 747 inverted under bridges" casual gamers.

I would've loved to see the 737 released before Christmas, but in the end it doesn't matter as long as we get the great product we expect from PMDG.

Later on Rob talks DC3 and 757...

DC3 isn't planned as of now, but they'd love to make one, but that depends on the future market situation and their business decisions.

January 2022 suits me just fine.

just like the "casual" Boeing test pilot Text Johnston, except the bridge was too low for the barrel roll.

60-130 fps. no CPU overclocking.

very nice.

Having only bought 1 PMDG aircraft since getting into flight simming again after decades (DC-6), i am fine with the extended date. I'd far rather them get it right, and they do appear to make sure any aircraft they release is top notch.

AMD Ryzen 7 5800x3d, MSI X570 Pro, 32 gb DDR4 3600 ram, Gigabyte 6800 16gb GPU, 1x 2tb Samsung  NvMe , 1x 2tb Sabrent NvME, 1x Crucial 4tb Nvme M2 Drive

Thank you for sharing.

I think what's more important than the release date of PMDG 737 is the fact that Asobo and PMDG are now officially in collaboration. That means a lot to me. I believe that anything PMDG needs from Asobo side in order to create a more detailed aircraft can now be taken more seriously now. I can wait as long as they feel ready for the release.
