Prepar3D v5.3 released

Featured Replies

I am in the middle of the P3d reinstall process. Client and content have installed, but Scenery is taking an awful long time. I am not sure if this is normal of if my install froze. Also, I left the 68gb main file installed (as was suggested), and now there are two "Academic" files in my programs list, the old one of 68gb and the new one being around 92gb. Is this right? Will the old 68gb file disappear once I boot up P3d? I am concerned that I may have broken everything.

Edit: P3d finally finished installing and booted up normally. Also, the original "Academic" File is now gone. Now I just need to figure out if any addons need to be reinstalled. If so, I have plenty of beer to help me through the process.

Cheers, Pete

....I'm sitting at a gorgeous (this sim is now...spectacular for visuals...wow...) Orbx KORS and...with TRAFFIC (cars...) 'on' with the Freeway Only button, and the slider at 0  all the way to the left...ALL my prior 30 and plus!!!!  FPS are back. Whatever has changed in the graphics of the road traffic...cars, trucks, campers, motorcycles,....it is taking more processing power....so...ONLY that, has changed, which to myself...is a fabulous achievement from L.M...for the sim is now just visually gorgeous merely sitting at Orbx KORS at G.A. parking position one, with the Carenado 114 Commander in use...that THAT should shed a few FPS, but is not!  So...now will start rising the slider by 5 (s) to see what the FPS reading is at the top left.

Also, the sim is adding in as you sit for about 2 minutes now, JUST LIKE MSFS...as you sit there, assets and features,  A.I.  people morph in...and I saw the exact same happening with traffic...I was listening to my hard drive and about 30 seconds later from plopping down at KORS, I then saw traffic render in, on the roadways to the East of the airport...just as now (well on my system) with my running of MSFS-G

So...I'm sitting right now (with no traffic on...but with all the heavy duty sliders that I had running in P3D v5.2 the same...at 30-33 FPS!   There is NOTHING wrong with this sim...and for the added assets and the E.A. sky, the rendering of PBR...they did a fabulous job of optimizing  So for me, the only 'drag' (if I should even call that now?!?!?) of FPS cost will be in how much Traffic from my past setting of 20 percent will I inject into the visuals.  I'm right now going to start with 5 and then add 5 to the 20 of which I then will fully expect to see that 8 FPS drop, sitting at 20.   I can do that, because there is no degraded animation with those lost 8 FPS to get 20 percent of traffic (PBR) back onto the roads. So...quite happy, that I know if you want...you can max out our FPS merely by turning down/managing  Traffic...on a modest system such as mine.

Ok...back to the sim on pause...and to explore...and again,  the depth of color, the imaging is fabulous...I am SO PLEASED with this update. So pleased...:)

Post Edit..."ok...it could be a bug...in that as soon as I put the Traffic Slider to only 5 percent, I dropped from 32 FPS, to 21!   Either Traffic assets are really killing/taxing process, or this could be a true bug that should be reported to L.M.  So...to get 32 FPS on my system, running P3D v5.3, (at this time)...will be to have the Traffic Slider totally to the left, and no traffic on the road.  For what traffic does...I think this is a first true 'bug' in v5.3, and can be addressed by a Hot Fix from L.M...."

Post Edit 2 "it DEFINATELY is a bug, for I just turned on to 5 percent and my FPS dropped from 32 to 20/21. I then cranked up the Traffic Slider to 50 percent, and STILL, I was sitting at 20/21 FPS!  So, by merely having this feature on...something in the coding is sucking FPS, and not indicative by how much the slider is to the right from the off setting...it seems if you have ANY setting other than far left 0, you will lose 8 FPS at 5 percent, or at 50 percent.  This suggests to me, that it is a bug...and not a true CPU/GPU rendering 'cost'."

Edited by Sesquashtoo

...final comment...right now, the Traffic (cars) is a bug....you turn it off, like I just did, and am banging out 32 FPS with the sim fully stoked, at Orbx's KORS, with Hendricks ships in the inlets'.....so for myself now, I will dispense with traffic and keep the Ships at my normal 12-15 percent which still give me now that 32 solid FPS.  Yep...for whatever...adding Road Traffic even 1 percent, will drop your FPS around 33 percent, at least, on my system...Ok...now to flying...

Cheers...

Well...I just loaded up the PMDG 737 at FT EHAM v2 and to my amazement, it all looked fine! Also, no errors when I rebooted P3d. I am sure I will find something messed up along the way, but I have never did a "full reinstall" without uninstalling addons. I am crossing my fingers that the rest is good.

Did you replace the new scenery.cfg with the older one you backed up (assuming you have some older scenery installed in that method)?

MSFS2024 running on Win 11, 4K screen, Z790 AORUS ELITE AX-W, i9-14900K, MSI 3080Ti, Corsair 2x32GB 6000 MHz, 1+2TB M.2 NVMEs

Just came off a great Orbx KORS to a PNW airport 30 miles away...with landing.

No TRAFFIC...button on Highway Only, but slider at full left 0.

In this config, I get even 32 FPS.  With Traffic slider to even 1 percent...I drop 33 percent in FPS readout.  Yep...this has to be a bug, to cause such a draw on processing power from the CPU/GPU.

So, until a HotFix is announced...I will run P3D v5.3 without road traffic, and the perk, is with Orbx Global, North America LC, and Vector, (wherever it is coming from)  I have road traffic embedded into the road textures, so I do have the appearance of traffic below me on the roads...and that's all I need for now.  Animated traffic would be nice...but until they investigate the high processing cost to put any on the road...I will not use this feature. Other than that...a great update, and I love at dusk, how the green/white rotating beacon now sweeps across all airport building assets, as well as all the planes, and yours...is washed with the green beam as it rotates. Night flying is excellent, and with my Orbx H.D. buildings, everything looks great.

Other than the one bug (Traffic Rendering)  not bad at all!  The HotFix for this will come...

Be aware that the stock scenery included with Prepar3D v5.3 is a lot bigger and features a more recent airport and navigation data set, including radio comms, approaches, runways, parking locations etc.

Steve, has the number of parking positions been increased from 5.2? Pitifully low numbers at many international airports. Hopefully addressed.

No...Am I screwed? I only went to FT EHAM and T2G KIND and both looked fine. However, I have a massive amount of payware airports and other sceneries.

Ray Proudfoot, one of the mods here has almost the exact specs as you. Check out his posts.

5.3 downloaded and may install tomorrow. I take it there’s no guidance in the LM installation instructions about how to get the best out of your CPU cores?

I see @SteveW has already said it’s down to the user to work it out themselves. How wonderful. 🙄

If you use Addon Organizer there’s an option to export all your entries in it which include scenery.cfg entries plus add-ons in My Documents\P3Dv5 Addons.

If you haven’t updated yet export, update to 5.3 and then import using Addon Organizer. Status quo maintained.

You have 6 physical cores /12 logical cores.

Do you use HT on Ray?

I turned HT off before running Asus Suite to overclock my CPU to 5.2 (3 cores) and (4.8) 3 cores.

Any suggestions?

So final verdict is basically a performance improvement in terms of FPS and fluidity with the traffic off?

I don't mind loosing the moving cars/motorcycles, so if this is the case I will reinstall on the weekend.
