I let p3d populate core affinity for my 12900k, during my flight p3d wasn't able to handle terrain, it became blurry

P3D will be no better at working out what the best cores will be for which jobs or how many cores to use on a particular system than before now. It is still very much up to the user to work that out so use of the enhanced facilities provided will better enable the user to get the best from a particular system.

Still downloading the update and since I have AT&T internet service that is the same as saying I am waiting for the Pony Express rider to come to my valley to deliver a letter with the new bits hand written on a bar napkin!! LOL!! They are a sorry excuse for a company for sure.

I have been through this entire thread and to be honest, I am just not sure if this 5.3 release is a step forward or not at least for my current computer. (See spec's below). In plain speak are folks getting better performance or can I expect to have a better visuals with the 8086 processor and 1080TI vid card?

Ray Proudfoot, one of the mods here has almost the exact specs as you. Check out his posts.

I have very bad performance with road traffic on. I switched it off and I get very nice smooth experience. I read somewhere here in forum that someone else had same issue. So it might affect more users.

For those of you using SimStarter, once it is updated for 5.3, any suggestions on using it to make the upgrade from 5.2 to 5.3 process faster and while preserving all of the profiles, scenery, etc.

You are showing the autogen draw distance from a high altitude (which one if I may ask you) with unlimited visibility that is absolutely devoid of any haze. Under these conditions, you will always see a border, no matter how large the autogen radius is (and I think that it's quite large compared to other sims). I agree that the sharp border does not look nice and that it could be made less noticeable, but the atmospheric conditions on the picture (on which you see everything in perfect clarity up to infinity) is simply unrealistic.

So, my P3D v5.2 is stable with all my sceneries installed, do we need to re-install all of our sceneries again like ORBX regions and such...?

What you (I suggest) you do, is this:

After you install P3D v5.3

Open up Orbx Central and starting from the top in GLOBAL,  use VERIFY files on each one of the selections.

When that is done, go to the top right 'gear' and then on the left press HELP, and then on the right press Sync.

Let that apply, and you should be done. Sync rewrites all the Orbx entries into the Scenery.cfg file, so it knows all that is in the Orbx Folder.

Running verify under the GLOBAL, puts back all the files that need to go in your Scenery Folder.

I would then (if you are running off a hard drive and not an S.S.D.) reboot and run your H.D. Defrag program if you have one.  I did so, and there were with the P3D install 114,000 files that needed to be defragged and put into sequential read for better read off of the hard drive and less if any chance of read 'pause or stutter' introduced. Also, it would extend greatly the life of the hard drive.  So that's about it...and enjoy.

Like other's have said,  when I put Traffic to all roads, my FPS literally dropped in half, from 27 to12/13.   That was with a setting of 20 on the slide.  After reading some more of other's experiences on this forum, I am now after typing this, am going to go and unclick all Road Traffic and see if my 30 FPS that I had with the 20 percent traffic inside P3D v5.2 comes back.  If it does...than as some are reporting, it must be whatever rendering they did for road traffic..whatever, that is taxing some more of my system. If that is so...I will then start at my normal 20 percent and kick it back one percent at a time, to see what that does for FPS, as well as how much LESS traffic is displayed, per 1 percent drop.  Stuff like that.  Also, even though I run at now, mean average around 22-27 FPS, with all my present v5.2 settings in place, there is no pause, no visual stutter, no stop/go of animation, so, I CAN live with that FPS reading..but I am more than curious as others are experimenting and reporting on this thread...did I lose 8 FPS because of PBR textures now wrapped around road traffic?  Will I gain them back if I turn off Traffic altogether?  Stuff like that...  I know that I will not turn off road traffic completely just to see a rise in (back?!?!?) to my 30 FPS...just to see that number displayed, since I do not at 22-27 have any visual reason to be fixated on it.  Just curious at this stage...

I read your post and am now going to also turn it right off momentarily to see if my v5.2 '30' come back. Then I will start with my normal slider of 20 percent which has me at 22-27 FPS with all my other v5.2 settings left untouched. I then will drop the slide one percent at a time just to watch the FPS meter and see for myself if that is the general reason I dropped 8 FPS (at the same setting right out of the gate).  I will tell you though, that putting road traffic to all roads, killed off my FPS...I was at 10-13 FPS with that turned on...so...either it is a bug, or whatever wrappers/textures road traffic is using, is really sucking CPU/GPU assets.  I dunno, talking through my hat here...but, something obviously is taking (on my system) 8 FPS away from the run. Not fatal,..but more interesting in WHAT is doing that...so here we go...about to fire up the sim and now focus on Road Traffic one percent drop on the slide at a time. I'll report my findings later on that.

...oh..one thing they absolutely fixed with this update is SOUND!   With v5.2 sound was muted...chopped, could barely hear ATC voices with the sim slides full to the right.  So, I put all sound sim slides,  engine, environment, ATC to the right, and each element BLASTED out of the speakers...so that is definitely addressed. Just wanted to mention that....

Okay so I'm back to an old question but for this new version:

HT enabled or disabled--which is best for 5.3?

and

i8700k (not overclocked, 3.7Ghz), Nvidia 2070, 64GB ram --what affinity settings should I be using please?

Thanks!

AMD 5830X

Nvidia RTX 3060

Win 11

by the way as P3D is firing up in the background I had a thought...

...we are all talking about "well, we had this amount of FPS with v5.2, and such."

Well, here is my question to all...what is really 'normal'?  What would a correctly running version of P3D with very little or possibly no bugs that were in prior versions be running at?  What I mean..is did I achieve 30 fps on my system with v5.2 because there were indeed bugs, and that quite frankly, assets were not properly being processed and rendered to the screen? Just that...and also add on new abilities, new visual elements,  so it would only stand to reason that whatever I had for v5.2 will no longer be the same with this update. For sure, sound is totally fixed..and it was certainly borked in v5.2 .  Stuff like that...did I lose (really lose? is that now even a proper term?) 8 FPS really? Or...was my getting those 8 more FPS with v5.2 as a result of things NOT being processed, features not implemented that now is in v5.3   Have I in fact lost anything in performance?   I dunno...   Yeah...I lost 8 physical FPS (on the meter..) but performance wise....if I did not have that displayed...I would NEVER KNOW that those supposed 8 FPS were/are gone.  So...again I ask everybody including myself...exactly WHAT is a 'normal' processing draw for this sim?  I don't think that answer can  ***BE*** answered...for each system is varied...and there can not be a 'base' expectation. Either the sim runs smooth, or it does not...totally independent of what FPS your system is displaying. It either does the job for you, or it doesn't.  I think that is the final evaluation....

Be aware that the stock scenery included with Prepar3D v5.3 is a lot bigger and features a more recent airport and navigation data set, including radio comms, approaches, runways, parking locations etc. Since the parking locations in v5.3 may have changed at the airport you are currently located at from v5.2, your aircraft might not be located at a parking spot if you are loading a saved flight made in v5.2.

I agree with you that scenery drawing distance where it ends does not have a smooth transition (that was my point), in real life, you never see a "border" like this, it is just a smooth transition. It blends nicely without ending abruptly like in these pictures.

I strongly disagree regarding "but the atmospheric conditions on the picture (on which you see everything in perfect clarity up to infinity) is simply unrealistic". During day-to-day real-life airline operations, (flying  at low/high altitudes) we encounter hazy days with limited visibility and perfect crystal clear situations related to the weather phenomena and geographical location.

So I wonder if the stock scenery would be better and more up to date then the ORBX global and LC?
