So we must choose either Orbx Global Base or default PBR textures now? My issue is I don't think Orbx Vector or Orbx OpenLC products will work without the Global Base product. That's a bummer if so because we need the LC product for accuracy along with Vector for coastlines.

You realize after doing 2, 3 and 7 you overwrote the new default PBR terrain textures right?

Yeah..but what does one do?   The sim looks like **** without them....well, the older versions...as I have overwritten the default ones...before running...

If somebody took some snaps of the default P3D v5.3 ground textures...with all sliders to at least 90 percent...that would be great. If it looks good, I might just reinstall...but snaps, please!

Post Edit...I no longer care what they might look like...I have loaded in all my Orbx...and the sim looks great!  I can live with how it looks for sure!

I forgot to take screenshots. But one look at it from above, I immediately installed Orbx Global products with OpenLC.

PC- AMD Ryzen 7800X3D, 64gb 6400mhz RAM, Nvidia RTX4090

Maybe we should act stupid and go ask orbx would they update their textures in the "near" future?

So your opinion is ORBX global textures are better than updated default textures?

It would be really nice to have some screenshots for comparison.

Well, I just have been flying and tweaking my heart out..and the final state of affairs, is that this version is a winner.  It cost me 8 FPS on average with the exact same settings between v5.2 and now v5.3.  E.A. is now doable...great clouds, good haze..and I will now keep it on.

The water surfaces are so much better with now waves and animation, where before, you hardly had any.

I tried running the sim without Orbx Vector..and quite frankly, it looked horrible.  For example,  the Sarnia River with no Vector installed, as default, looked about the same as if I just placed a cooked noodle laid over the terrain. No detail, no shoreline that I know very well...just a gash, or a noodle. I then installed Vector and got back what the Sarnia River actually looks like...so, yes...there is a great and benefical impact to P3D v5.3 if one runs Vector all out...

About those lost 8 FPS...well, as far as animation is concerned. There seems to truly be no visual 'hit' to that.  Whether I was at 30 or now 22 to 27 peaks...it is just as smooth.  Therefore, FPS is no longer a 'play' concern. If you have smooth, stutter free animation...then the FPS count for any given scenario becomes totally redundant.  My case, anyways....

My mark?  A hit...and totally thumb's up.  I am running Orbx Global, Vector, all the land configs LC's......libraries...all of it...and the sim looks great!  v5.3 is a winner...and E.A. I'd say, for myself, and the visuals, is now  'out of Beta'. It LOOKS GOOD! 🙂

YES!  And you NEED Orbx Vector, to get proper shoreline shapes and configurations, for lakes, rivers...ocean shoreline.  It is truly a must have...  I have all the features turned on, with it...and now between Orbx Global and Vector...the sim rocks!  E.A. rocks!  So very happy with this update...and while I lost 8 FPS (more things happening, and better visualizations cost processing power) no stutter or smoothness was lost along with those 8 FPS.  Not at all...so no longer needing to fuss over and, to even worry about 'where they went' lol.

Great, thanks. Altough I dont have ORBX vector. I use Ultimate Terrain X...  which I think should be something similar.

I have no experience with that...but...without Vector in play, the Sarnia River, in Ontario Canada, looked like I had laid a cooked noodle on top of the terrain .  Horrible at default.  I then reloaded Vector..and the Sarnia River now looks like the real river following its course. I have Orbx Global, all the land class LC's..both North America and Europe...both custom Tree's...and the sim looks great!  H.D. buildings as well. I also have sim-wide custom mesh scenery 3rP, and the mountains are quite fabulous! Smooth animation with no stutter as low as 15 to 30 FPS.  I now mostly run at 17-25 ..but...dead smooth, so the FPS is merely a number..merely that.  E.A. looks simply great with now, REALLY nice volumetric clouds...very wispy...no artifacts,  they now look like real atmospherics.  Haze is not over done..well...in a nutshell...VERY happy with v5.3 along with some Orbx loving.... 🙂

I can't consider EA ready until they mellow out the weather transitions and 3rd party can pick up EA weather on the radar...

Am I missing something? Where does it state that LM have updated their ground textures to render as PBR? What I am reading is:

Updated additional content to PBR textures including:

  • Ground, water, and airport vehicles

To me, that reads as Ground vehicles, water vehicles and airport vehicles. No mention of ground textures, default or otherwise.

So, I am assuming that we should continue to use the ORBX Global replacements.

Mike

The question should be asked concerning autogen textures, I think
