December 31, 20214 yr If your town is anything like mine stay inside at midnight tonight when the gun nuts got outside and fire their guns into the air. Those bullets have to come down and they injure and even kill people. So if you live in a gun tot'n community like mine stay safe. Stay indoors until the shooting stops. Here in Roswell the on duty police cars will be parked in the lower level of the parking garage at the Wells Fargo Bank until about half past midnight. https://blogs.bcm.edu/2019/12/31/what-goes-up-must-come-down-the-dangers-of-celebratory-gunfire/ Noel Edited December 31, 20214 yr by birdguy The tires are worn. December 31, 20214 yr And to think we made fun of that sort of behaviour in the UK. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5QmP2Ad5UAc Having said that, two teenage boys stabbed to death last night in London.

December 31, 20214 yr Moderator Every year for the past 32 years I've spent July 4th and New Years Eve/Day in my basement... ...because of the complete idiots who insist on firing their weapons in the air. Silly fools could just as easily fire into their lawns instead of the air. At least then they'd know where their bullets went! Fr. December 31, 20214 yr I'm sorry, it's not fair but I keep thinking of my favourite Rodney Dangerfield joke: "My neighbourhood was so rough, the police station had a peephole in the front door." Dugald Walker

Precisely! Three years ago a 13 year old boy in my neighborhood had his life cut short by a falling bullet splattering his brains all over his family during a back yard cookout. I'm very strongly leaning towards moving to Arkansas and getting out of the Chicagoland area completely. A close friend just bought a lovely house in Hot Springs National Park. I drove there a few weeks ago and was very impressed with the area. Fr. Bill AOPA Member: 07141481 AARP Member: 3209010556 Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
December 31, 20214 yr Firing guns on NYE is just not a thing here, and never has been to my knowledge. Discharge of firearms is not allowed as per municipal bylaw where I live, and I would guess that there are similar municipal bylaws throughout Canada--where we don't really have a gun culture similar to our neighbours to the south. The first time I encountered this practice was a number of years ago, when I spent NYE in Mexico City. While at a party at a friend's house, I was cautioned not to go outside or be near a window as the clock struck midnight. I had no idea why I shouldn't, so I asked and was told that people shoot their guns indiscriminately in the air (much to my then amazement) and that people had been injured or killed as a result. I recall if the trajectory is above 45 degrees it loses the velocity of the shot and falls under gravity so less dangerous. Below 45 degrees and there's still sufficient velocity to kill.
