Looks excellent. Thank you!

Really fantastic glider. I also note that Hans Hartman(Aerosoft CRJ) was also involved with this development. I'm looking forward to the payware version when they complete it. It will be amazing as well.

Hi, are there any real life glider pilots that have tried this?  How does this fly compared to a real life glider?

Just asking because I have never flown a real life glider.  If the add-on is very far from how a real life glider flies, I may wait for another 3rd party party glider, or for Asobo to implement gliders (I know this add-on is free, but I wouldn't want my first impression of how a glider performs to be wildly different from the real thing).

With gliders in the previous sims you needed all kind of add on programs running. So that was a mess and not so interesting. Is that the case here also?

I would love to dance with the clouds without engine but don’t want to d/l and use all those extra programs.

No, you just unzip and copy this to the Community folder. No extra programs required.

So I downloaded this an tried it. It's pretty cool.  Maybe some here an Avsim with real life glider experience can comment on the flight model and how the 2C flies.

One question I have is with the altitude for the winch setting.  The maximum altitude appears to be 2000 meters for the winch setting.  Is there a way to set the altitude higher than 2000 meters with the winch?

Longer cable? 🙂
But seriously. Downloading it now. Thanks for the heads-up.

I am a glider pilot and also have a full PPL.  I've just tried it and it looks and feels great. Note that there is a switch on the panel to change the gauges from metric to imperial, whic I just found.

Is there anyway to have the air brakes opening and closing variably rather than full open and full closed?

Thanks for your comment about the 2C!  Always nice to have real life glider pilots give their feedback on this!

I am a glider pilot (and PPL) though not current. I have never flown this particular glider, so keep that in mind when reading my comments.

First, it looks gorgeous!  I've recently been flying a lot of Condor2 and it was so nice to be flying in a much more realistic looking setting (though Condor is not bad with downloaded scenery - it's just nice to see so much more detail in MSFS).

As for how it flies, with only a couple of flights now I have to say the yaw input required seems to be quite off. That or the yaw string is not modeled correctly. I'm used to using a LOT of rudder input when gliding. I barely had to touch the rudder and when I did, the yaw string did not seem too responsive to it. I instinctively pushed a bunch of rudder at the start of every turn and that seemed too much in the sim. Again, I've not flown the Discus 2C in real life, but all other gliders I've flown require constant rudder work. It's common for power pilots transitioning to gliders to not use enough rudder. This model kind of felt like flying a power plane.

Just my $0.02. All in all, a FANTASTIC start and it's making me really excited for more glider input to the sim. I can't wait until we can do aero tows (hopefully in multiplayer with someone flying the tow plane!)

Yeah, I'm going to have to get the aerotow and thermal addons to go with this one I think.

Although this includes a winch simulation, I remember in FSX adding silent engines to glider mods to simulate winch launches that worked well and was controllable (yes, I drove glider winches as much as I flew gliders).

FYI, MSFS does model updrafts and downdrafts along ridges.  I experienced this with VFR lesson 8 for FSAcademy:

But I'm not so sure if thermals are modeled for mountains yet.

Absolutely marvelous piece of freeware!
You can launch a flight at altitude in case 2000 meters is not enough.

Beautiful...

Same here. I'm also giving it to much rudder and i'm loving it!

But then again only ASK21 and 23 IRL experience.
