Rex Weather Force

Not sure why you assume his system is "messed up" somewhere ???? I run MSFS with very very rare issues and the ONLY times I've had my locked 45 FPS turn into "slide show" was during a session with REX WF running.  That equates to telling someone "I never have CTD's so your system is messed up"

Built within Weather Force are smooth transitions for real-time weather as well as our dynamic weather presets.

You have several settings within the program to choose from:

- Persistent transitions, which changes the weather between updates over time.

- Or it will transition weather during an update within the time frame that you select.

Hi Reed,

Is there a way to stop any weather update while on approach ? Trying to land in EGLL with the CRJ + traffic + Rex WF updating = impossible !  Thanks

PS : if that does not exist, it's an urgent mean, and not hard to implement (exemple: if plane has been above 20.000 feet for more than 5 mnutes -setable with a slider- than wehen plane goes down below 5.000 feet for more than 1 minute, no futher weather update)

Thanks

I used to get REX slideshow all the time. It was to do with the weather update frequency settings. I can't remember what I changed but its smooth-ish now.

Why not post your REX WF settings?

Thanks to those who posted their settings earlier. I made some more flights using the settings from @fppilot.

All flights with the following plan: EKSB - VOR ALS - VOR KOR - VOR KAS - EKCH

We have had quite some variation in weather in Denmark the last couple of days, so a lot of potential for transitions in the sim.

I see the same pattern in WF behaviour each time - below with a 10 minute update interval.

1 Inject weather at EKSB - FPS solid at 50+

2 First weather update after 10 minutes. During the update FPS drops below 40, but is visibly choppy. Updates seem to run for 10-20 seconds?

3. After weather update, the FPS recovers but never to the same as in step 1. Around 45 on average, the real issue is that it remains visibly choppy, as if something is still running in the background.

4. If I I then close the WF app, FPS returns to what it was in step 1.

Do any of you experience the same as me in the steps 3+4 above?

It is as if after the first injection WF does not load my system continuously, while after the first update something from WF keeps running.

I just did a test with WF. I have the same results as you are having! FPS drops from 40 to 20 after the 10 minutes update!.Quitting WF, the FPS went up to 30-35. Something is not right with WF imho.

Nope.

I completed 4 flights, two with Live Weather two with REX.

I see no significant differrence in fps using Live Weather or REX Weather Force.

When RWF updates, there is a slight stutter for a couple of seconds, then everything goes back to where it was before.

Transitions are noticeable but not "abrupt".

I did encounter the loss of altitude that some have reported. But only once.

@Ricardo41 thanks.

What kind of weather were you flying in?

I just flew from Baton Rouge up the Mississippi with WF. Clear skies - so probably not ‘complicated’ weather wise. Flight was long enough for 3 weather updates... 20 minute interval.

I never noticed any change in performance, so it must be weather dependent as well (no pun intended).

My results are very similar to SuperKaro.  It  seems WF works really well from initialization until the first update (unless skies are clear to partly cloudy) in which no problems seen. Throw in some precip or more clouds and FPS takes a hit at the update.

The weather was bad, heavy rain and thunder.

While I appreciate that you know more about my system than I do, when frame rates dip to such a level during the transitions that the whole experience becomes exceedingly choppy and stuttery, "slideshow" would be a fair description (especially when that's the only time it ever happens on my rig with this sim).

I like REX Weather Force, but the FPS hit when transitioning is not it's strong suite.   If you want to debate semantics, I'll defer to others who may be interested in that kind of thing.

Try increasing the update rate if you have it set to 5 minutes.

Scandinavian winter weather. Rain, sleet, winds, snow.

Terms like "fps hit", "choppy and stuttery", "slideshow" are in essence meaningless terms.

I'm aware of REX's limitations and hiccups but don't get bent out of shape by them.

Just completed a (non direct) flight from KJAX to KDAB (miserable low ceiling and drizzle to rain with low ceiling). (UPDATE RATES set to 30 minutes)  On the ground Asobo had rain, lots of clouds but areas peeking thru to blue skies (stupid cumulus clouds trying to provide OVC skies) .  REX showed full OVC and light rain (looked perfect).  Climbed out (with WF) and was on top at 9500-10,000.  As I broke thru had bright sun and beautiful white (cotton like) cover below me. Flew around this for about 30 minutes and never saw a drop in FPS nor any change in skies.  Began my descent back thru the soup and as soon as I broke under the ceiling WF updates and frames start to drop with lots of stuttering (FPS around 25-30).  Pulled up REX GUI, clicked STOP SYNTHESIS, clicked Asobo Live weather ... immediate frames back to smooth 45 and skies from Asobo looked awesome (low ceiling and perfect match with KDAB metar).  Landed with Asobo weather looking great.  (Agree this is a lot of "hoops" to jump thru, but the awesome weather for the flight made it a pleasant experience.  For me, I guess it has to be a COMBO USE for REX and Asobo.
