Keep in mind,  METARS are only updated once an hour anyways.

With some specific actual changes of weather conditions, such as IFR criteria changes (ceiling, visibility), start and end of precip and change in type of precip, and start and end of thunder (15 minutes since last observed), interim metar reports are broadcast.  For MSFS live weather and for REX WF use of those would be valuable to know.

True, not counting special updates, but isn't the problem that at speeds of 100-500 kts (depending on aircraft type and flight level winds), those airports go whizzing by? Thirty minutes of flying can put one 200+ nm away from the previous "nearest" airport and the weather there may be significantly different, so more frequent updates may make sense, at least to some of us.

I wonder if WF can take advantage of flight plan info, even if it's just a straight line direct route to smoothly pull weather from along the future flight path. I seem to recall that ActiveSky somehow made use of a flight plan to do something along those lines.

YES we need some answers !  I just experienced a BAD situation on REX.  I was approaching "visual" RWY 26 at KJAX (on VATSIM), weather was Scattered at 3000 with a BKN ceiling at 11,000. During my final about 2 miles out (REX updates to light rain and full soup at 1000 feet).  My FPS dropped the worst ever (somewhere below 20) and I had to quickly switch to CLEAR skies so I could see the RWY. (not  happy trooper)👿

I have had that occur with MSFS Live Weather as well.  Happened to me today for about five minutes between Lakeland, Fl, and Ocala, Fl at 5,000 ft with MSFS Live.  10 minutes later I suffered a CTD.  Fortunately with either weather tool it does not occur often.  Did not use REX WF today.

Here goes... flight from EKSB to EKCH in Denmark. Using the WF settings you guys shared earlier.

1 Injected weather at EKSB and took off. FPS at 52... and it looks word not allowed nice!

2 First update after 10 minutes. FPS @ 38 and choppy during update.

3. After update FPS recovers to 48, but is still visibly choppy

4. I close the WF app and FPS back at 52.

I can then restart the cycle.

Closer to EKCH the weather change was more drastic and FPS dropped to 10 during the update.

It recovered to a choppy 31 and back to 52 when I closed the app...

I am lost.

I agree with you and Frank. We are caught in a "roller coaster" ride trying to enjoy a beautiful sim with dependable weather and consistent FPS. Both Asobo LIVE and REX have some real nice features but suffer in different areas.  If the need for accurate weather while flying on VATSIM  wasn't so, I would dump them both and use presets ONLY.  "Please help us HiFi Simulation, you're our only HOPE"

You are not lost! Rex WF does not have smooth transitions and you will get beat up on FPS during the transitions. It's a big downside of the program vs the default Live WX.  Several people on these forums are constantly posting pretty screenshots comparing the Rex clouds to the default clouds..  No one has ever denied it could give you a nice screenshot but you will not have smooth transitions while flying regardless of the claims....unless you are going from clear skies to clear skies but you'll likely still get the FPS hit even with that.

And have you still not purchased and/or used REX WF?

Has anybody claimed there aren't transitions with REX?

As with most things in life there are compromises to be made.  MS live weather is my default option for the same reason as most - it has global weather that for the most part doesn't have transitions between weather areas.  However, it has some major flaws that are well documented, most importantly the fact it doesn't work on a frequent basis - I am not referring specifically to the one hour per day bug, but to those occasions the weather depiction is way off, non existent or looks like it was painted on screen by a less than competent artist.

REX WF hasn't got a global weather model due to SDK limitations, therefore it will always have transitions between weather areas.  However it can, and often does, portray the weather more accurately than Live Weather (hence why I have been 'constantly posting pretty screenshots').  I purchased REX WF on day one, but after the first flight didn't touch it for months due to its biggest flaw - transitions.  I tried it again because the degradation to Live Weather had reached a point it often wasn't enjoyable to use.  The transitions were still there of course, but I was pleasantly surprised how less jarring they were compared to at launch.  I was also pleasantly surprised at how accurately it was depicting the weather and how much better the clouds were looking than Live Weather.  For me and others, the flaws with REX WF are often less jarring than those with Live Weather

Fly with the weather that is less jarring to you - perfection doesn't currently exist in any one weather solution in MSFS.

Given the SDK limitations, how can HiFi Simulation be the only hope?

Nothing more than a play on the famous line from Princess Leia (from the original Star Wars).  I know HiFi has stated they can do nothing without proper access to SDK.  I am also wondering what happened to this guy ?  His mod was AWESOME !    https://unrealweather.blogspot.com/

I don't use weather force because I haven't found the default weather all that bad. Granted, I'm coming from FSX. I used to use the addon weather programs there, but not often, because my system just couldn't handle them. Now, with MSFS, Im continually in awe and the weather most of the time is accurate. Right now, I'm flying in northern New Mexico and its spot on to whats displaying on Skyvector.
