January 7, 20224 yr As I was descending into KLAX this evening, which is experiencing dense fog, the fog suddenly popped in, as did clouds on departure from KSLC. Definitely not fixed, not even better. Most of what is said on the Internet may be the same thing they shovel on the regular basis at the local barn.

It makes me wonder how successful an open beta was. The absolute majority seemed to just treat it like the latest version and continued to get on with flying while not providing feedback. Now that it's Gold Release, here comes all the feedback. Of course, it's still dependant on what Asobo actually implement. So I am not just trying to pin the blame or anything. But it still made me think. Oh how I wish they would just put a toggle in, call it VATSIM Real Weather Mode or something. I just want a convincing environment rather than matching reality. No need to wonder, all of the testing objectives for the beta are laid out in the forum which you can see here - Release Notes 1.21.17.0 - Pre-release Testing - SU7 Update Public Flight / Welcome to the BETA - Microsoft Flight Simulator Forums
January 7, 20224 yr There was plenty of feedback during the beta just a severe lack of communication from the Devs as to what was going on with it and whether any of the "new to beta" bugs would be fixed, so they've either been A) Ignored or B) put on the back burner for SU8. January 7, 20224 yr I think at least some of these weather issues are server side and need to be fixed there. Hopefully there will be improvements before SU8. Don't know if this is from MSFS itself, or from Bijan Studios four seasons, but on my flight from Madison, Wisconsin, to Bloomington, Indiana, today, the demarcation from snow cover to no snow cover was a bit more sudden than I would have expected. Most of my previous flights over snow pack have either stayed far enough north or were all IFR on top. Not a body of water, but instead the end of snow cover. This was flying south over Indiana, about 20 miles north of Lafayette, and it stretched from E to W. Very green once past the line. Perhaps it was caused by a "stationary front"! (Oh! No! January 8, 20224 yr Just to report on one other set of observations, I did a flight from Catalina Island (KAVX) to Santa Barbara (KSBA). The weather was simply brilliant. No other word for it. All of the SoCal stations were reporting a low cloud layer with low visibility below. At KAVX, which is at 1500' on the side of a hill, I was taxiing through what seemed like the wisps at the top of the cloud layer but the sky was clear as indicated in the METAR. While taxiing the visibility actually varied from point to point just as if I was taxiing. Immediately after t/o the weather was severe clear until I descended again near KSBA. The cloud layer was well defined and I broke out just about where I might expect on the ILS where the visibility was around 5 miles, again pretty close to what was specified in the METAR. Totally immersive and very impressive. I have never seen anything remotely like this since FS9. OK, that was a joke. Best wishes to all for a good weekend. Fly on!
