January 18, 20224 yr Hello Avsimmers I would seriously appreciate some help with this. Essentially, I have mostly lost my patience with MSFS default weather. Of course it may get better in time, but with the downtime, the snow coverage, the METAR pop-in and such it's fairly frustrating. What I really want is dynamic weather that changes throughout my flights. I want it to be believable but doesn't have to match real world conditions. To be clear the most important things for me are; 1. Believable and attractive weather but not necessary to be based on real time data. 2. Dynamically changing throughout my flight without severe pop-in changes. So what I ask of you is; Sell me this add on, tell me it's pros and cons, experiences you have had good or bad, thoughts on any alternative products or reasons to save my money for default sim improvements. Currently circumnavigating the world in a mix of Cessna and Piper aircraft. My Default Setup; MSFS, Honeycomb Alpha, Thrustmaster Hotas X, TrackIR, Samsung Galaxy Tab, JustFlight Piper Arrow. Simworks Quest Kodiak 100. Wishlist; Honeycomb Bravo, Honeycomb Charlie. 1:400 Airline Model Collector.
January 18, 20224 yr Started using Rex Weather during the recent MSFS Live Weather outage. I am experiencing a significant negative impact on sim performance during the periods where Rex updates and/or transistions the weather. Frame rates become choppy no matter which setting combination I try. The solution I have been offered on their Discord is to switch to instantaneous transitions rather than gradual... which kind of defeats the purpose. Granted, the weather looks good, but in my eyes it is not better than what MSFS native weather offers for now. I have switched back. I am a casual simmer, and my rig is reasonably beefy: Intel Core i7-10700KF, 32GB DDR4-3200 RAM, Asus GeForce RTX 3070 8GB TUF

I'd not buy it again....

January 18, 20224 yr I bought WF right out of the gate and used it a couple of times. Pure garbage, another WIP product from REX that never worked. I had a similar experience with Environment Force for P3D from these folks too. Sky Force was another debacle. I was waiting for the better part of a year for updates to fix bugs and improve stability that never materialized. Eventually gave up and never looked back. The only thing that REX ever produced that I liked was their replacement runway textures. I would avoid them at all costs. They're in the same category as Captain Sim in terms of being shady developers. Edited January 18, 20224 yr by captainjohn73
January 18, 20224 yr Author Interesting. I did not expect as many bad points so soon. I am glad I asked and didn't just buy outright. I do not have the most powerful PC so the drop in performance would not be welcome. Please do continue contributing to the thread if anyone has better or worse news to share. But those guys promised a lot to us P3D users and did not deliver.. So my advice again: Stay away. And yes, just my opinion Carsten U
January 18, 20224 yr Has anyone heard yet whether the seasons issue in Florida had been addressed yet? That's the only thing holding me back at this point! Chris Camp
January 18, 20224 yr DO not buy, a hack with a pretty interface. Significant fps hit in certain situations, not temporary, but for the rest of the session. Sudden weather changes. I do not recommend it. Most of what is said on the Internet may be the same thing they shovel on the regular basis at the local barn.
January 18, 20224 yr Yeah, I'd base my buying decision on the unfounded opinions of a few users who haven't grasped yet, even though there are 1000000 threads on this, the limitations of an outside weather program. My advice, ignore all this noise here, go on REX's discord server and ask away. I regularly switch between REX Weather Force and LIve Weather, sometimes the former is more accurate sometimes the latter (based on meteoblue and windy data). Also, REX Weather Force comes in handy during the times Live Weather is down or isn't working correctly. Also, REX customer support is excellent. Edited January 18, 20224 yr by Ricardo41
January 18, 20224 yr Dear @Ricardo41, it so good to have guys like you around in the forum to help weigh in on the unfounded opinions from the rest of us who haven’t yet grasped the limitations.
January 18, 20224 yr I think based on what you’ve outlined for desires, default weather is closest to what you’re looking for. I bought Rex early on and while it can be helpful when there is a live weather outage I personally don’t find myself ever using it outside with that. I purchased Rex Weather Force at release and would have echoed the bad points above. However, I have changed my mind since MSFS weather introduced METAR with Global forecast model data. My thoughts are... MSFS cloud depiction. IMHO this has degraded over time. Don't get me wrong here though because MSFS Live weather can still portray the sky in an amazing way. I default to using MSFS weather, but if the depiction is way off, not live or just starts with incorrect clear skies, I will use Rex Weather Force. Here is a recent example I posted. Real world weather was a low layer of broken cumulus with a high level overcast stratus layer. MSFS Portrayal - completely wrong cloud type with no layers and unrealistic Rex Weather Force - much more realistic with correct number of layers and cloud types Overall, I would say Rex Weather force portrays the weather in a much more realistic and accurate way than MSFS Live Weather. HOWEVER, as with just about everything you have to compromise on which product you choose based on what you are after. Rex Weather Force has transitions, but they are much better than they used to be. This is the one of the major differences between them. The other is the global nature of MSFS Live Weather. You can see different weather types in different directions and fly towards or away from them. Rex Weather is the same in all directions, so you will not fly towards different weather in the distance - it will transition slowly from what your in to what is in the distance. One can't deny Rex Weather has its issues, but so does MSFS Live weather. I use both to get the best experience from both. I'm willing to accept issues that are down to limitations, I'm pretty forgiving of the sim for that sort of thing. The major thing that attracts me to REX is having weather presets that are dynamic. I would probably be more inclined to choose a weather preset if I knew it wasn't going to be identical for the entire flight. Then I would use live weather where I want more of a surprise.
