Kodiak vs Cessna 208B Grand Caravan EX Improvement Mod

One of the best aircraft in MSFS, and this mod wants to change everything. Lots of luck with that.... I bet that mod will destroy  the flight model which almost everyone loves.

To quote the mod author "it's Definitely Wrong, so it doesn't matter, right?"; I love his attitude to all the armchair pilot critics, it's brilliant!

Have you read the mod description Bob to see what it does, or did you write it off based solely on it being an FM mod? I don't own the Kodiak but the feedback I am reading across the internet suggests the FM has some issues. This chap sounds very experienced across several turboprop types so coupled with feedback I've read I think he's probably onto something.

First of all you don't own the Kodiak, I have over 100 hours in it, and thousands and thousands of hours in other sim aircraft over the years. If I fly something and it feels like a real aircraft to me, and someone posts that there are many things wrong with the flight model, then I just look at it as nonsense, but that's just me. The feedback I get from reading these forums, is that almost everyone that actually owns and flies the Kodiak, loves it. Maybe you should buy it and see what you think.

And you don't "own" the mod ......

May be the Kodiak will fly even better with it ?

Don't judge before you tested it out by yourself.

I installed the mod last night and it flies much better. Hopefully SWS will implement some of these changes themselves.

The way I look at the mod is….how about a tiny little bit of patience with SWS? They are very much aware of the issues with the flight model (and other issues) and I feel confident  they’ll be addressed. They have the knowledge, resources, real pilots and factory behind them. The mod creator does not. And the plane in its current state flies very well, as many of us will attest. Obviously there are some small changes that will make this plane even better. I’ll wait to see what SWS does first. Too many CTD’S reported with the mod as well.

My quote was about the attitude from Bobsk8, not about the Kodiak or the mod.

Because he has over 100 hrs in the Kodiak does he can title the mod as nonsense? Without even testing it? SWS itself says - the mod handle some issues in the right way and some things wrong - it is obvious that they tried out the mod.

The mod creator does have some knowledge, without any doubt.

The Kodiak is IMHO so far the best addon for MSFS. Great work from SWS. They are knowing  the issues and like you I feel confident they'll be addressed, To make their Kodiak even better .....

BTW - the reported CTD's with this mod are all related to 3rd party liveries ....

The way I look at it is it is only a Community folder mod that with Addons Linker can be selected/unselected in mere moments and does nothing to the core SWS model.  So there is zero harm in at least trying it out.

I have used a number of 3rd party user-created Community folder mods that have since been replaced with official updates to the commercial products.  And of course I no longer need or use those particular 3rd party mods.

So what is all the fuss about?  Good grief!

You need to exit the sim for whatever you put or take from the community folder take effect.

OK, I expected that would be the case, but was hoping I would not have to restart the sim every time when experimenting with different mods.

Thanks,

Honest question, 100 hours in the real thing or the sim? (Kodiak)

In the sim, I was short around $2,500,000 plus fuel to get the real thing.

I don't fix things that aren't broken. One person tried the mod and said it made the Kodiak feel like a C 172.. Thanks, but no thanks.

You are aware that you Don’t have to own one to have time in it? in fact you can get paid to fly one 😉

For anyone who might be confused, what I think Bob is saying here is that he has hundreds of virtual hours in a plane that he has never put his butt in in real life, but by virtue of his vast experience with simulated planes over the years he can tell you that this particular virtual Kodiak is a perfect implementation of the real thing because it "feels" real.   Furthermore, because of that self-evident perfection there is no need to even try any modification to it, as such a mod would be inherently flawed by simple virtue of its desire to alter that perfection and anyone using it would be wasting their time.

It's pretty straightforward, I think.   What I haven't yet figured out is how this comports with the developers' own statement that a) there was a bug in the original model that had to be fixed, and b) there are further fixes coming, including some along the lines of what's already present in the mod on the official forum.  All I can figure is the developer must have a tragic misunderstanding, as Bob says its flawless.  Someone should stop them before they break it and become as worthy of scorn as that mod that there's no point in anyone trying.  🙃
