MSFS Australia : the only interesting question

Featured Replies

its amazing how chilled the roos are. We go for bike rides through there and they'll be laying down right next to you as you cycle past and barely flinch.

It's pretty sad for them, as it's one of the last places they have to live away from busy traffic within the gold coast area, as developers have basically taken over everything. I think the only reason they made it a reserve is because no one would want to live at the end of an airstrip and the waste water plant is just a tad further along the road (can get stinky). It gets pretty swampy there too.

There's also a strip of bush that runs along the trainline not too far away from the above, that is home to Koalas, long neck turtles and lots of roos too, and that's about to get cleared for a new motorway.

Just remember. EVERYTHING in Australia is trying to kill you.

Surprised the add didn't block your editing area....I think Avsim needs to change its name to ADsim.  The site is all but impossible to use on your phone these days.  I understand the need for advertising revenue, but this site has gone from slightly annoying to completely ridiculous.

TRAVEL, VACATION, HOLIDAY, GET AWAY FROM IT ALL, FIJI, ST THOMAS, HAWAII

Sorry....just trying to get travel adds to pop up so I can browse them as I read the forum. LOL

lol yes, an ad takes up the entire screen on my phone too

MSFS has got very jumpy since I started looking for wildlife.  Even did a kangaroo landing.

I'm sure it will get more snappy once the crocs arrive.

Install an ad blocker like AdBlock Plus. I have it on my desktop, iPad and iPhone.

I see. I don't need either PMDG, good weather engine, reliable ATC or representative AI Traffic.

More kangaroos and camels in WU8.

OK, I swear I didn't make any research, this came to my Twitter time line this evening from a cartography geek 😄. The respective population of humans and kangaroos in Australia. Doesn't say anything about crocs, emus and dingos though.

Do not pick a fight with an Emu. Mad as a cut snake when riled up.

Roos mate, why even ask?

Btw don't forget Koala bears, quokkas, tiger snakes, death adders, dingos, sea snakes, sharks, deadly catfish, deadly jellifish: all local attractions for your entertainment. The first two are harmless and cute. Better avoid ditching.

Not to mention drop bears.

The once ubiquitous Greater Southern Drop Bear was nearly hunted to extinction in the mid 20th Century and became a protected species in all States other than QLD by the late 1970's.  Since then there numbers have skyrocketed (Maquire, 1983).

It is worth noting that the term "drop bear" is a misnomer as they glide using gliding membranes, known as patagia, which extend from the forelegs to the hindlegs.  The drop bear is actually related to the Sugar Glider, not the Koala as people often mistakenly think.

This ability to glide is significant as it allows drop bears to attack people at a considerable distance from any trees or buildings and there are even unsubstantiated reports of drop bears "hitching a ride" on the undercarriage of light aircraft and letting go to glide down and pounce on an unsuspecting victim they have spotted. However, viral videos online of Drop bears hitching a ride on aircraft undercarriages have been proven to all be fake (Bruce etal, 1998).

It should be noted that most drop bear attacks involve tourists as Australians are familiar with the areas to avoid and also tend to eat vegemite which is a known deterrent against Aussie predator attacks (though it does not work well against mossies).

The unpleasant, much publicised on social media and conspiracy websites,  trick of wearing urine soaked underpants on ones head does NOT work and peer reviewed scientific studies (James and McDougal, 1986)  show no significant reduction in drop bear attacks when using this technique.  Wearing underpants on your head will just make you a source of ridicule for the locals and have no meaningful effect on drop bear attacks.

All animals take their role quite seriously downunder. I had to develop a particular technique to avoid magpies attacks to my dog Peter during our daily walkies. Oh, and how to forget the daddy-long-legs (giant mosquitos) in Mandurah ...

Tough, beautiful country. Wonderful memories.
