February 6, 20224 yr I ordered a ultra leap controller to play with. I understand that currently there are some issues with the new open xr toolkit, but am confident that the developer will nip that one soon.

Haven't tried this yet, and I prefer not using SteamVR at all with MSFS. February 7, 20224 yr I've recently ordered a Reverb G2 but reading this thread has me a bit worried that my GPU isn't going to be up to the task. I have an RTX 2080 8GB (running on an i7-8700K based system). But this thread is making me believe that if I don't have an RTX 3xxx GPU, I'm in for a world of disappointment. Just how much of a compromise am I going to have to make with my 2xxx series GPU? Have I made a big mistake?

I run the G2 on a 2070 Super and with most settings to high, TAA and LOD to 100 I achieve between 20 and 25 fps in the Kodiak. In the 152 or by reducing some settings I can get over 30, but I prefer the visual quality and find around 22 fps very flyable and enjoyable. Rest assured, VR is a league of its own and an absolutely amazing experience. I for one could never go back to 2D.
February 7, 20224 yr Mine arrived two days early today (thank you Canada Post!) and I’ve only spent a little bit of time in it so far but wow this seems impressive. Took off from Calgary Springbank in the DA62 heading for the Rockies… I just used the default VR settings that MSFS provided for now and performance seems decent though the refresh rate on the glass panels is quite annoyingly low so I’ll likely try increasing that a bit. Lots of time to tweak and mess with stuff but for now I’m just going to fly! Well... if you look at the videos showing the VR experience, just keep in mind that these videos are just 2D reductions. VR videos in 2D and TrackIR in 2D may be seen as very similar. But.. when using a VR headset, the view is complete 3D, and when you move the head, and as perceived, it is not the scene that is moving, but just your head, as in real life when you move the head. Just a very big difference!
February 14, 20224 yr Big difference with track ir and VR even through 2d videos. One is 6DOF and the other is confined head tracking where folks clip through the boundaries of a screen. February 15, 20224 yr I would also like to point out that everryone keeps mentioning the HP G2... but there are better resolution options out there like the Pimax 8KX and Vario Aero. The main issue with VR now is not so much the resolution of the headsets but the top end kit needed to run it. If you want top end VR resolution you probably want a Vario Aero + 3090 + Processor in the last couple of gens + 32GB memory. Yeah you can have varing degree's of decent VR resolution with lessor kit but if you want top drawer it can be achived if you have the money to spend.
February 15, 20224 yr I'm thinking to give Aero a try, but its price of $2000 is just a bit too steep, especially considering we're seemingly in an explosive moment that many new VRG headsets are coming out. Tough times.. 9950X3D / 64GB / RTX5090 / Pimax Crystal Light / Win11

"exactly what VD does" is a far more eye watering subject!
March 5, 20224 yr So about a year ago after getting the Rift S, I got tired of all the tweaks and I just couldn't seem to get it to work for me so I gave up on VR. I have been reading and watching the videos on YouTube about the improvements that has been made over the last year. So I just started back into VR and I've gotta say, I'm really getting into it now. I don't know if it's the improvements made in MSFS 2020 or what but I seem to have found the sweet spot for my settings, and I am now running most of my VR settings in FS 2020 on Ultra and it's almost smooth as silk. The main change I made was in Oculus Tool Tray. And those settings have made all the difference in the world. Now most all of my flying will be done in VR. I've really enjoyed TrackIR for the last 10-12 years but now that I've got VR rocking sim life is very good.
