I was just thinking about how when MFS was released, it was summer all the time.  I don't have anything special downloaded, but where I am now is covered in snow (both reality and in the sim.)  While I don't expect it to ever be perfect, it looks so much better than how it was originally.

Well done and kudos to the devs!

Yes. I've noticed that too. In my area of West Virginia, MSFS has been very accurate in recent months depicting both when snow is falling and when snow is left on the ground.

Guess the snow is okay'ish, but the frozen seawater all over my country is very annoying.

Yes but The airfields are always full of snow.  By that I mean the runways and the taxiways where you cannot see the markings.  They should be clear of snow or they get shut down.

Flying over Lake Erie yesterday, I saw that the lake was partially ice-covered in the sim. Real-world satellite images indicated the lake is currently 40% frozen. Call me impressed!

Not funny at all, it rather explains such threads here about a "feature" that is at least in central Europe implemented totally wrong, as snow cover never matched reality for more than a year now and basically disabling the fun of using real weather in the Alps completely. Add the idiotic frozen lakes routine resulting in all lakes frozen that never freeze at all and you have a total mess. Seriously do not get how you can come to the conclusion that snow coverage is close to anything useful atm...

It depends on where you fly. Not everybody flies over Interlaken in Switzerland. In most of the places I‘ve seen the snow coverage was more or less accurate (could be a bit more detailed though). The frozen lakes are a problem, I agree, but if you‘re flying over Lake Erie in winter and it‘s frozen then that‘s accurate. I agree that there‘s much room for improvement, but that one spot in the Swiss Alps, annoying though it is, is an exception rather than the norm.

Ok sorry wrong word, "amusing" then 🙄

Live Snow has worked pretty well for me in Europe, a bit delayed at times but generally it shows up in the right places.

Well, add northern Italy, Pyrenees, Austria, France, Parts of Scandinavia to it. And don't forget New Zealand, where Milford Sound is currently covered in Snow although they are in mid summer... So, NO, I do not think it is limited to Switzerland only, this is just my personal test area, but I guess the implementation is wrong all over the world, it is just not that obvious in some regions...

And yes, I guess the frozen lakes are a different issue, but visually it is related, that is why I mixed them both together...

You're right, there are more places where the snow coverage is buggy. I completely forgot about New Zealand. But still, I think in most places it's correct (or acceptable), at least I haven't come across many such places and I fly in Europe a lot so I don't think it's a complete mess. Let's hope that the seasons update will bring some improvements in this regard.

Well, as discussed elsewhere, I guess it is more or less simply an issue of what resolution of the snow coverage map from meteoblue they use. If you zoom out, you will find several rather strange snow coverage blobs that dissappear if you zoom in, NZ still being a perfect example at the very moment. The snow coverage blob visible when zoomed out disappears if you zoom into souther island for example.

Yeah, I noticed this in your Norway. All the fjords were frozen white! A shame, but I'm sure it will get fixed in the future.

That's my suspicion as well. That blob in NZ looks like a bug on the side of Meteoblue. It's been there for ages, in the exact same spot. For Milford Sound the map doesn't show snow, so that might be a different problem. I don't know about Switzerland. Did you happen to check the snow map last summer?
