Which ATC program would you recommend.

Featured Replies

I have been flying mostly in the West USA using PilotEdge ATC.  However, I want to explore the world a bit more now with ATC, so would like to start a thread discussing what ATC programs are available to MSFS.  The recent thread discussing FS ATC Chatter was interesting, and as I understand it, that program works with Pilot2ATC.  I know of PF3, but never used it.

Which ATC program will overall give the best immersion and ATC accuracy?

External Storage Three 4Tb HDs

PF3 has a free demo. Try it and see for yourself.

Tried PF3 & P2ATC, for me the winner was P2ATC by a mile.

Both have demo versions though, so I'd try  and see which one you prefer .. ..

I realise there is a demo, but I am interested in the views of flight simmers who have used the various ATC programs.

I have used them all and been a beta testor for two of them. PF3 is my favorite by a mile. Comes with over 100 controller voices. Still, what I like, you might not. That is why the demo is a great idea.

I have been using Pilot2Atc and have been happy with it.  I also have PF3, but I haven't really used it much. I find it quicker and easier to setup Pilot2Atc. I never use the built in MSFS ATC.

I fly in VR, so using Pilot2atc works well for me. Once it is setup, I do not need to take my headset off to look at it. I just press the mike button on my yoke to talk.

But as Bob said above, what I like, you might not.

I've used PF3 for a while.  I like it.  Tried Pilot2ATC and for some reason didn't get on with it.  I much prefer the accents in PF3.  If you use SIDs and STARS I believe P2ATC may be more flexible but it's not really an issue for me.

Hello Bob,

I also have PF3 and love the ATC program..  Since you were a Beta Tester I figure I ask here but will contact the official forms.   I notice when I went to the SID and Stars page option in PF3 to close some runways (ie, with the option X..I'm sure you know what I am talking about) one of the runway I was going to use had the wrong runway number. In my case it was runway 33 for PANC, I believe this is the new runway number for PANC's RNAV Approach.   In PF3 it is showing Runway 32.  I know it is no big deal (off by one #) but I was just curious as to why it is not showing it correctly.  I have Little NavMap and it is showing correct there with the MSFS load database function/option.  I've also ran MakeRwys a few times and did the DB update in PF3 and still no change. I checked the runway output data that MakeRwys creates and it was correct there as well but not on the PF3 program itself.....Strange.  Is there a way I can make the change it myself inside PF3?

Thanks In Advance!

I beta tested for P2ATC a long time ago, for XP...but it's been so long I have no idea what new features it may have as far as VFR rules/capabilities. It was a bit difficult remembering all the phraseology for all the commands as it did not truly mimic RW.

Does anyone know if one of these apps or both support VFR rules for clearances and airspaces?

I just brought PANC up in PF3 and it says runway 33. It is also listed as runway 33 in Avliasoft EFB. Now I have Navigraph subscription so that may be why.

Hi Bob,

That is interesting.  I'll need to check further.  Yea, that could be it regarding Navigraph.

Thanks again for helping, much appreciated!

Default ATC is great!

Especially when you somehow go temporarily offline and they start using those awesome generics!😁

I'm using the Pilot2ATC demo now. Just set it up and watched some tutorials.  Do you find PF3 better because of the extra voices, or do you think it is better featured?

I couldn't get into paying $35 for each pilot and controller voice, so Pilot2 ATC was a non starter for me.

Another vote for Pilot2ATC. I have tried PF3 in the past but despite the voices it didn't really appeal to me. As already stated by someone else, Pilot2ATC also works very well in VR.

Another program worth mentioning is VoxATC. It used to be my favorite a long time ago, IF it worked. However, it very often stopped with a fatal error and support was minimal, so I stopped using it. The problems may have been fixed by now, but I am now a happy user of Pilot2ATC.

Another good alternative, maybe even the best, are Vatsim and IVAO. IF controllers are online, I find it much more stimulating to interact with a real human. When I fly in an area with a decent chance of Vatsim ATC becoming available, I often start the flight with Pilot2ATC and then switch to Vatsim if a controller goes live.
