February 26, 20224 yr I know you remember the original Mel's up on Van Ness Charlie. I was there many times in the early 1960's. Although my "home" Mel's was in Salinas, the one on Van Ness will always be my favorite (my bride-to-be and I had many burgers and fries there). For all those who don't know about Mel's on Van Ness, it's the drive-in filmed for American Graffiti ........... Doug PS: I'll bet Noel has been there too............ Also remember getting White Castle burgers - 10 for a dollar! but I'm really old. 🙂 RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
February 26, 20224 yr Administrators Never had Whit Castle burgers. My favorite was a local independently owned hambuger/hotdog place in East L.A., on Whittier Blvd that had the best burgers for 40 cents. In fact, it's still there! Got a burger a few years ago for about $3.50. A guy I knew in Jr. High School got a job flippin' burgers there when he was in the 11th grade. He wound up working there until he retired. By then, he was a manager. Charlie AronAVSIM Board of Directors-ADMIN/Moderator-RegistrarJust going to run a Chromebook and not upgrade to a Windows computer. I don't remember drive-ins. I do remember soda fountains in drug stores and ice cream parlors. Noel The tires are worn. The shocks are shot. The steering is wobbly. But the engine still runs fine.

February 27, 20224 yr Moderator I miss the soda fountains as well. I also miss the Walgreen's lunch counter and their "fine cuisine!" Fr. Bill AOPA Member: 07141481 AARP Member: 3209010556 Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
