Is ORBX FTX Global needed with P3D v5?

ORBX FTX Global should only affect textures worldwide and landclass in some areas.  It also updates the autogen and night lighting.

I can't see how it would affect scenery objects or the road traffic.  Are you sure you're not confusing ORBX Global with ORBX Vector?

Personally, I find the ORBX Global textures to be much better than the stock textures, but that's subjective.

Totally agree. Just recently I discovered lots of autogen objects look better with ORBX Global. I saw watertowers look completely different (better) than default.

About Vector, I have seen recently that it deletes default roads in 5.3 HF2. I was creating an airport and suddenly roads weren't there after I installed Vector again. I then made this roads around my airport and after removing Vector, I had double roads there.

That is the definitive end of Vector for me.

Yep.  ORBX Vector not only contains new vector scenery but it also has to exclude the stock vector scenery.

I reported a few months ago that Vector might be the culprit with my stuttering issues, which happened when my cpu load jumped to nearly 100% when using the flight planner, gps, or navigation maps.  It turns out that the sim was having to load all that ORBX vector data for the maps which not only took a lot longer but also put a huge load on the cpu.

I've also noticed that my scenery rendering in general is smoother now that Vector is not installed.

When I go into Orbx Central, I don't see Vector on P3D v5, but it's there on v4.  It's also not installed in v4.  I only show Africa LC, Africa mesh and Europe as installed there.

No mention of compatibility with P3D v5. Speaks volumes.

So what is the verdict? Ever since introduction of V5,  there is talk that VECTOR is not necessary and doesn't do much. I have to admit, ever since I built my new PC and installed everything back I have VECTOR. I guess I should  un-install  to see how it looks or if any performance to be gained. But if someone had it installed and removed  I would like to know opinion. I've been simminig to long and forgot how "base" looks. Also I do have Global if that makes any difference.

This is the FTX Global topic. Not sure why it’s diversified to VECTOR.

I understand, but I didn´t expect it to reduce detail instead of increasing it. Before P3D5 this has not been the case I think, at least I never observed it.

ORBX themselves said Vector is not needed for V5 as P3d V5 has been updated to include more accurate bridges and land class. And yes you will see an improvement in FPS by NOT installing Vector. With that said I still recommend global to be installed, but everyone has there own preference. Another thought Ray if you are flying in areas that have upgraded regions and airports already then global will not benefit you as the regions land class and tiles will be placed on top of the global tiles anyway. To be honest there are very few areas that I have that do not have higher scenery already loaded the one area I can think of would be the midwestern US where there is no regions available from ORBX.

Just to add to the conversation, I uninstalled FTX Global and flew in non-OpenLC areas. Around RJAA, VHHH and VTSP. honestly didn't see much difference. In the LC covered areas like Iceland you do notice some missing or glitched textures. These occur even after a simulator sync and restart. Reinstalling Global fixes them, so Global stays on my install. For now my P3D V5 will be Global, Buildings HD, Terraflora V2, OpenLC NA, SA, Europe and Africa. My desire is that when Prepar3d V6 releases, LM would have continued the enhancement trend (Truesky, Waveworks) and contracted ORBX to integrate these addons, fully PBR complient into the base sim. One can dream.

FrankSalo - I concur that was my experience with the few glitches elsewhere that have been in the P3D scenery files since V5 was released. In some areas the LC or look is more realistic but for the time being same here Global stays for same reason it fixed those texture glitches!

This would be because there is a dedicated P3D v5 version.
Look at this link: Global VECTOR - Prepar3D v5 - Orbx (orbxdirect.com)
Speaks volumes.

For the benefit of @bic as the owner of a licence for Vector for P3D v4, you are entitled to a licence for the P3D v5 version free of charge. You do however need to visit Orbx Direct and add it to your account.

Hmmm...that's interesting.  Wonder if it still creates instability (stutters, etc.) in P3d as did the previous version?

I believe that the only difference is that the v5 version does not include the airport fixes, such as updated altitude and airport backgrounds, that previous versions included.
