May 22, 200719 yr In a way this is a response to all the trashing that's going on in these forums. Despite the negative comments I have eventually decided to buy FSX Deluxe and a new system:-Intel Core 2 Duo Extreme QX6700 Quad Core Processor-Windows Vista Home Premium Edition-1000W PSU-ASUS P5N32-E SLI nForce 680i SLI(C55XE) Mainboard -2048MB DDR2 900MHz Memory-500GB Serial ATA Hard Drive with 16MB Buffer-16x DVD-ROM Drive-768MB nVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX -Creative Labs Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Gamer Sound Card (yes, a good soundcard is important for perfromance as it takes the load off the processor)I have simply installed FSX followed by SP1. No tweaks, no nothing. With everything on ultra high at 1600*1200 I get a minimum of 25FPS and up to 50FPS. I don't normally even check the FPS but since the people here seem to be obsessed about it I decided that I would for the sake of this forum. Surely, what's important is what you see; not some number. And I am definitely getting a smooth ride, with no glitches, no blurries etc... just like real life, even at 25FPS. And the graphics are simply amazing (I will post some screenshots in the near future). FS9 doesn't even come close (I can't comment on the scenery add-ons) nor any other flight simulation for that matter. Some other subtle points: I do not connect my gaming PC to the internet (to make absolutely sure that there is no spyware) and I am not running any anti-virus software because I know for a fact that they affect performance. So yes - FSX is the best flightsim to date. I challenge anyone with a matching system or better to comment otherwise.
May 22, 200719 yr Exactly! clean install and then SP1.Your PC is high end now, but in 1 yr will be mid range, and 2 yrs entry level :)Right now, FSX (on ultra high) is beyond most peoples hardware.IMHO the complainers should run FSX settings a little lower :) FSX+Sp1 is great! Matthew S
May 22, 200719 yr I finally got it to run smoothly on my fx-57 (single core)The airports are still an issue. I did not choose to have any airport traffic as it really bogged my system down. I also as you can see did not use autogen. This helped tremendously.Bob
May 22, 200719 yr >Your PC is high end now, but in 1 yr will be mid range, and 2>yrs entry level :)That's right. Which means in 2 years time no one will be complaining. And people will see that when run to its full potential this is a unique game. I bought this PC for

May 22, 200719 yr That's some sledge hammer you have there, and you don't even have all FSX sliders right, so of course FSX performance is not likely to be an issue for you!Regarding FPS chasing, I suspect the majority of people only check FPS when comparing to other systems (just like you did in this post!) or are not getting acceptable performance and want to find out why. The "number" can actually be useful in this regard.Gary 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11
May 22, 200719 yr Yeah but what aircraft, what airport, any AI?, obviously no real weather as you are not online......too many variables you're glossing over and a quad-core processor to boot! Goodness sake. Imagine if you had to move into a new house to get that new Hi-def flat-screen TV to work.....but, hey, seriously, glad you're enjoying it. http://www.my-buddy-icon.com/Icons/objects/red_3d_plane.gifAlex ChristoffN562ZBaltimore, MD PowerSpec G426 PC running Windows 11 Pro 64-bit OS, Intel Core i7 11700K @ 3.60GHz 30 °C, 4089MB NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 , ASUS TUF Z590-Plus Gaming motherboard, Samsung 870 EVO 2TB SSD, Samsung 750 EVO 500GB SSD, Acer Predator X34 34" curved monitor (external view), RealSim Gear G-1000 avionics suite, RealSim Gear GNS 450, Slavix Stay Level Custom Metal Panel, Honeycomb Alpha Yoke, Redbird Alloy THI, Saitek Combat Rudder Pedals.
May 22, 200719 yr >Yeah but what aircraft, what airport, any AI?, obviously no>real weather as you are not online......too many variablesWith the default 747 at JFK I get 25 FPS (airliner traffic 100%, other traffic 15%). With more basic aircraft its much higher. All I'm trying to get at is that FSX is not as bad as people make it out. Its just that in every single discussion whether it is people asking for support or general discussion there is someone totally trashing the game. I just felt that I had to make a response and let future users know what the games is really about. I appreciate the fact that people are not getting what they expect but in a year's time no one will be complaining. It's always going to be like that with a game like this.
May 22, 200719 yr >Sounds like Mesh PC might be getting some USA business!>How much is that in US dollars.About $4,000 at current exchange rate. :-)

I also as>you can see did not use autogen. This helped tremendously.>>Bob>>If that AI traffic, is default AI, the problem is probably not the AI traffic itself, but the Jetways engaging when you start up which can more than half your FPS's until fully engaged. Try sitting at a runway with AI traffic and wait about 1 to 2 minutes, and see if your frames pick up. This is also a problem if you overfly a major airport that has AI. To eliminate the problem you need to modify the exit parameters in your aircraft.cfg file to remove the coordinate settings for each exit door. Keep the rate of movement setting, (Which I believe is the first setting, The same as FS9 aircraft). The other way is to reduce your scenery setting below dense, but I think if you do it this way, you lose other eye candy!! As usual you should backup any file you modify!! May 22, 200719 yr KD,Thanks for your post. Nice to hear positive comments for a change. What would it be like if Microsoft decided the pain isn't worth the payback? We would not have much, in my humble opinion. From what I can see of it, FSX is a fantastic Sim. Has a few warts right now, maybe. But, some or all of those are probably self inflicted.I am glad to hear your particular setup works so well. I plan to get the same system when I can. Right now, I am able to just run FSX enough to see some of the wonders and fly the missions. I love those and expect there will be lots of them in future. You guys won't believe what I'm running FSX on right now....Core 2 duo P4 3.2 GHz, 1 G RAM, VISTA Home Premium, Intel Graphics chip - NO VIDEO CARD!, On board Realtech sound NO SOUND CARD!,aircraft sliders all the way right, weather all off, Global Texture set to max, water set to 1 high, everything else is either 1/3 or 1/2 to right. I get 6 around NY airports, 30's in rural areas, average in the low to mid teens in general. No doubt, it is aggrivating to say the least knowing that with a real gaming box like yours, KD, it would come to life. Hey, I'm amazed it will run at all!!I have one problem right now, the sunlit textures don't load at first. I can change the anti alias check box, or toggle the filter from whatever it is set on to more or less filtering and the sunlit textures come back. I can live with this.
