We all sim in different ways, but this rant and approach is a little extreme.  A sure fire way to get voluntary contributors to lose interest.

Yout quote says I said that but it was Maxis not me.

I like to call it donateware, If you use the FBW and don't donate to the project than you have not a reason to complain. Just stop blaming developers for your downfalls and let it go and stop using it. No need to Call out FBW like that Maxis, just ungrateful. They owe no one anything.

I have to say that Monday and yesterday I was able to complete flights using the experimental version of this aircraft helped by FSFO and A320 Sim Pilot instructional videos.  A truly terrific time for me - aged 78 - and I look forward to many, many more wonderful times with this aircraft.  Very many thanks to the FBW team for your efforts and dedication to *my* FS experience.  BR.

Just to be clear on the consequences:

It is still possible to use the AI ATC assistant. It has just become a bit harder to turn it on or off:

We are happy to use any better way to disable the problematic assistants as soon as the sim is providing them. For the moment we stick to this approach as the sim seems to activate assistants after updates or any other reasons, we have also seen people having it on without knowing it. It takes often a lot of time to actually find out what the problems even are and then that the assistant is maybe on. We have an issue open on devsupport to make MS aware of this overall situation.

Keep also in mind that if someone really really wants to have the old situation, you can lookup the change we made in the PR and restore it locally. Yes you have to redo that every update, but it‘s possible.

This isn't about lack of gratitude. It's about FBW making it harder to use inbuilt ATC even tthough it doesnt affect their plane as they cite affect as the reason for this stupid change.

First it is not them, there are limitations and balance needs to happen. If they are seeking to simulate all systems, at some point some limitations need to be overcome. I bet you will see similar issues in other high fidelity aircrafts.

This isn't about...

On avsim it's rarely "about" anything, it's more about folks climbing on their high horse and proclaiming in no uncertain terms their moral superiority, whereas Maxis is ungrateful, self-centered, and intolerant.

The author raised a -IMHO- valid point. Could he have expressed his concerns a bit more diplomatically? Probably.

But from the reactions you would think he robbed a monastery blind, then went on to desecrate a cemetary.

Not here to argue with any avsim user..  .. The point is not about whether the product is free or not and as expected the boosters on here who follow blindly are here in full force ..

@ErichB

Thank You for AT LEAST partially understanding what this is about. You may not agree with the way i explained myself but i was hopping mad after getting home and finding out the sim was not how i left it and wasted my time trying to figure out how i screwed up my sim. I work very long hours and have very little time to sim. And instead of providing a workaround as the gentleman finally did here they muted me for using full caps twice because i should just shut up and take whatever changes they made to my sim and be grateful  because its free.

Sorry i flat out don't operate that way so whomever wants to apply labels to me go right ahead. Its for those reasons i fully vet products for weeks or months  before i install them  (See the very first Rex accuseason thread and initial pages for the AIG thread) for this sim and ensure that i have full control as to what is going on in my pc with the benefit of having no ctds and being able to trace for the most part what causes what.

Regardless

@AGuther

Thank you for providing a workaround .. I had promised myself  not to tinker with config files in this sim a la fs9 but i will have to do so in this instance  going forward because the changes made in my opinion are not appropriate . (let affected end users who have an ai issue  check their settings and make sure they are off like any intelligent person would do) If this workaround to undo the change was provided when i went to your discord i could have lived with it. But what i got from some of you guys initially was we will change it and you will like it ..

The rest of you can have a nice day .

I'm not gonna be one to judge what sim features people use. I use taxi ribbons myself. But at some point there is a limit between what we can do and how much of the default sim stuff we can support.

If you spent some time in our support channel, you would have seen so many people unable to fly the plane because there seems to have been a change with SU9 regarding AI asisstances, specifically assisted take-off. A lot of users report having had that setting enable itself, or having their asisstance settings reset.

We initially added a notice that would stay up if any of the offending assistances was detected. Unfortunately, we still had issues from users not understanding the message / not wanting to disable them, even though it made the aircraft unflyable.

We then decided to implement a **sim-integrated option** used by MS' own Volocopter that disables flight assistances. This also happens to unfortunately disable the assists menu, making enabling supported assists like AI ATC a bit harder to acesss, but was not the goal or intended effect of the change, at all.

I get it - you might dislike the change - but there are polite, productive ways to state that.

We're always open to any alternative solution proposed.

Developer - FlyByWire Simulations

@Maxis

People are yelling at us that the plane is bugged for consequences of those assistance functions. Here is a request on dev-support pointed at MS/Asobo that describes the consequences:
https://devsupport.flightsimulator.com/questions/7607/possibility-to-turn-off-assistance-functions.html

Do I want to waste my free time with such things? No. If all people would argue like you I would stop doing anything for the community anyhow. Yelling at someone who invested around 1500 hours into a plane that you can use for free…questionable from my point of view - and that‘s only me. You do not like it, understood. I can assure you we didn‘t intend to especially hurt you in any way.

I hope that after the frustration you will find fun again and wish you a good day.

Maxis message was conveyed in a strong way for sure. I for one, and I am fairly confident I speak for 1000’s, truly appreciate the work that @AGuther, @Watsi and the rest of the FBW team are putting in. No doubt it has been an enjoyable challenge for the team but I am equally sure there have been many frustrations along the way. A32NX is becoming such a good simulation in MSFS. It’s what keeps me coming back. Heck, some days I don’t have time to fly but run the FBW updater anyway. A waste of bandwidth yes but gotta have the latest version waiting for me! It is remarkable what has been achieved and fascinating to see it grow and develop over on Discord, even though I have no clue on the coding.

Thank you FBW!

To be honest, if someone wants to fly the FBW or any high fidelity add-one, they shouldn't use any AI assistance or so ever to start with.

AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D, 64GB DDR5 6000MHZ RAM, RX7900XT, FreeSync 165hz 1440p display

I was hit by this as well - loaded up the FBW and realized that I can no longer toggle AI ATC comms on or off. At the very least there should be a message popping up to tell users if you do a fairly major change like this. I wasted a lot of time thinking it was a livery issue, trying to redownload, etc.

I get that you feel this is necessary, but I would suggest popping up a message explaining what you've done so users don't get completely baffled when a plane that was working perfectly before suddenly causes this.

And to the whole "if you fly FBW you shouldn't use AI" crowd - I don't see the point of dropping down a menu to select the default ATC reply every time. I prefer to have my AI copilot handle routine comms while I fly the plane.

But in any case, everyone flies the plane differently, and if there's a fairly major change like this, it would be nice to get a pop-up when this is implemented into the stable version. Experimental is fine, I know I'm supposed to trouble-shoot.

It seems you have no idea what the support and devs teams are confronted with every day. We had several users posting a screenshot of a message that is telling you exactly what you should do. They just don’t read it…

By the way in the release notes of the stable version this is mentioned. Again we are talking about reading things.

Whatever the team is doing…there will always be people complaining. It will be interesting to see how this will happen with other payware planes, as they might be affected by the same issues as we are. If they find out how to turn it off…we will see if they take it as well…
