Does PMDG 737 for MSFS have time compression

Featured Replies

and pause on TOD? These were settings in the FMC for the P3D version and was wondering if it's also in the MSFS version as well.

Yes, it’s the same as in the P3D version.

Pause at TOD toggles seemingly active pause only, some report. Means time and fuel burn still continue. Not too helpful for longer pauses. Need to check myself today

How does this time compression work?

According to the manual, it's using real pause. However there is a problem with real pause that fuel keeps burning. Asobo's supposedly on it.

Can confirm this. Was on a flight today, just after I got past TOC, I decided to take my dog for a long walk and then have dinner. When I unpaused, the engines quit on me due to having no fuel in the tanks.

everyone here is talking about the pause when OP asked about sim accel.. altho the active pause bug mentioned below scares me..

I'm curious if you can do 4X or 8X accel like we did in P3d.. I doubt it, because MSFS and XP flight models are more CPU intense (not a simple table lookup like P3D), so the sim accels are limited by FPS.. at least that's how it is in XP.. i'm sure MSFS is the same.. hence the reason why in FBW also, we're not able to accelerate beyond 2X.. this may not be an issue for 737 per se, but doesn't bode well for the long haulers in the pipeline for MSFS..

You can. The manual recommends no more than 16x.  I've not tried more than 4x, but things were perfectly fine at 4x... nice and smooth, no oscillating... just faster.  You can also choose to have the clock text change color to show which level of accel you're using, and there's an FMC menu page that shows it as well, with a reset button. It's well done.

haven't tried this yet but i think i saw 'AUTOCRUISE' in the FMC menu somewhere

There is no issue with accelerating 4x or 8x or even 16x in the Maddog, 737 and what ever comes next, because those - in contrary to the CRJ and also the FBW partly - are completely custom coded. So long haulers should be fine.

As for the pause at TOD, I think it's something Asobo has to fix. Anyway in practice if you want to go for a walk, just 16x until shortly before the TOD (should take like 10-15 minutes max in a typical 737 route) and hit ESC and you have a "real" pause.

For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.

where's that? also FMC --> MENU --> Simulation Settings? Just check while approaching LEBL but did not find such option

I suspect in simulation settings, yes, but can't remember for sure. It's referenced in the manual; a search in there for time compression might be quicker.

alright, just enabled time compression under MENU -->  FS ACTIONS --> AUTO CRUISE and Auto Time Compression ON. Works great, chronometer color changed to green now and I am zipping from LEBL towards EGLC now. My max compression is set to 4x now. Nice to see that time compression is reduced before turns, smart solution.

EDIT no so smart anymore when time compression still kicks in during final approach, was getting a little hectic in the end until I deactivated time compression again via above steps. isn't there a short cut, like on the chronometer? IIRC that was the case for the NG in FSX. Anyway, windy landing but all fine

Oh so no need to buy that Concorde then LOL

What always surprises me is that on the one hand some folk want a realistic flight plan but why bother with that when you plan to use this feature anyway. might as well just enter runways for DEP and ARRIVAL in the FMC and fly in a straight line to your destination an go to bed....

It also does not help realizing just how BIG the earth is that MSFS has so generously provided to us. Flying is SUFFERING, don't forget that 🙂

Iirc correctly the frame rate time compression constraint is due to having an Airbus fly by wire simulation, was the same for the aerosoft bus in previous sims.  It’s never been an issue for traditionally controlled aircraft.

The biggest issue for long haul in this area is that the Asobo “travel to” function doesn’t work.  Hopefully they get that sorted some day.
