Featured Replies

To coincide with the release of the 737 their scenery products have a discount applied today. I just bought YSSY Sydney and YAYE Ayers Rock.

Orbx Central download speed is too slow for big sceneries. Its a pain to wait. When John was the captain the download speed was good.

That is odd, I have never had any issues with Orbx download speeds.  Is this a common problem for people ?

Tell us what you get ? Below 10mb/s ? or ?

Orbx quality is patchy, some are basically freeware quality, some are good.

My vote: buy anything by pyreegue.

What is worthy getting in your opinions?

Well. 27% off aint much man ! Remember the DL speed is terrible. Anything below 40 -> 60 Mb/s is a pain.

I've got around 15-20 Orbx sceneries for MSFS. Never seen a problem with download speeds - I wonder if there's an issue at your end? Not that I've ever checked the download speed, but its not somethings thats bad enough for me to notice.

As for airports in the sale:

Here's a list of the exact ones that are on sale: https://forum.orbxdirect.com/topic/213349-pmdg-737-release-airport-promotion/

It's not even 27%, it's 26.3% - theyre trying to be cute - so its only worth buying something if its good and you were thinking of buying it anyway.

For me, the only one that is tempting is Renton.

A better deal, if anyone hasn't seen it, is the short-term 35% off offer by Flightbeam. The code FLYMSFS will get you the discount, as long as you have at least 1 P3D airport in your account from a previous purchase. As a dev, Flightbeam has always been top tier, so their recent NZ airports are on my shopping list.

I don't think that ORBX is really that relivant anymore unless you are using FSX, XP or P3D

Intel Core i9-10900K at 5.2GHz, Corsair H115i PRO, ASUS MAXIMUS XII HERO Z490, G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) 15-16-16-36, ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 3090, SAMSUNG 970 EVO PLUS M.2 2280 1TB x 3, Corsair HX Series HX1000 Watt PSU, Pimax Crystal LIght.

As a developer, they are less relevant now than when the default sim visuals were too horrible to contemplate using.

as a store though, they are my first choice.  Orbx central is great at keeping everything updated and easily installed, if it is available on Orbx, I won’t buy it from someone else.

Lol I came here actually thinking PMDG had pulled a surprise and would be offering the 737 on Orbx ...

Orbx Central dont give you 40 -> 60 Mb/s anymore guys. You are satisfied with 1 -> 10 Mb/s and think thats good.

I too get exceptionally slow DL speeds from Orbx Central.   Installing a TrueEarth scenery for XP11 used to be an overnight affair (literally 6-7 hours).    I believe there are regional considerations for the achieved DL speed.  I'm in the UK and I did once read other people in the UK also saying they consistently got really slow speeds from Central.

Yes. Its a pain buying and downloading from them now. Its slow 24 hours a day

I bought KRNT on the Orbx Central sale then noticed it was cheaper when buying direct from DD.  Very detailed scenery pack but it has so many static aircraft it is almost impossible to find an empty spot to start the PMDG 737.  The coverage area is much larger than just the airport proper.  Tour of the Boeing production area for 737s is worth the price of the package.

I wish someone would publish an airport diagram showing which model plane is located at the specific numbered spaces.  My pc setup is too slow to go to each spot and capture the image then figure out what model plane is there.  It is fun just to taxi around and view all the animations though.

Highly recommend the KRNT scenery by DD.  There are several Youtube reviews of the scenery that are entertaining.

I still really like orbx.  Even in MSFS.  My download speeds are far faster than Contrail.  I like to buy straight from the dev when possible.  But other developers I intentionally do the opposite as I hate it when I discover there has been an update that I didn't known about.  This happened on a few FlyTampa ones where I had gone months without knowing an update was out.  Only to discover an obscure post on their forum.
