X-Plane 12 Flight Model Report

Featured Replies

Interesting update, but he could've spend a few more words. 😄

There's a part talking about the aircraft body/fuselage and how it influences lift. As far as I know, only wing-parts are calculated by blade element theory in XP11. The rest are parameters. Does anyone know if this is going to change or just being improved?

Nevertheless. As I like the feeling of flight, I'll sure buy XP12. While MSFS feels very dynamic with its simplified CFD-approach, it still overexaggerates the thing. Additionally up until now, it never fully got rid of its sensitivity issues (at least for me). With Anchorman Austin I know that someone is at the wheel who won't stop improving until this is perfect.

Gonna be fun now doing chop chop !

Ryzen 5 1600x - 16GB DDR4 - RTX 3050 8GB - MSI Gaming Plus

I read the weather section and I'm excited.  You all know that I'm using MSFS at the moment, but you might not know I used XP11 and P3D at the same time in the past.  I would be ecstatic if the Wx system was of utmost importance in a sim.  It appears like this will be the case in XP12.  Count me in!

My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL |
| Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |

What I like about XP is the certainty that there's a guy in charge who definitely knows what he's doing from an aviation perspective. It's invaluable to have someone who cares for the sim first and secondly for the marketing.

If XP had MSFS' stream-in scenery and less of these religious cult fans, I'd be all XP. 😄

I see people worshipping the competition and swearing it's the best thing since bread came sliced all the time, so I don't see this "religious cult" exclusivity here. 🤷‍♂️

That's true. The difference is that those people are just normal "fans". The XP guys that do pretty much the same on the other hand are "pillars of community" on the biggest XP forum. Some are even featured on XPs official website. That tells you something. 😉

One of these guys banned me for 7 days for critizising some workarounds on the XP flight model. 😄

Ah ok, normal "fans" are to be excluded from "religious cult fans".

P.S. that forum is specific to XP, so the rules of conduct are predictably different than those on general flight-sim forums.

I thought the XP11 flight model was perfect? At least so I had been led to believe. So what's new? Is this new one perfect? I've a feeling perfection is not possible in any sim so does it matter?

Nobody ever said it was perfect. It was good and it's gonna be even better. Not hard to grasp! 🤷

There is no such thing as perfect. How old are you? You can't be that gullible?

64. So I take it you presume age equates to gullibility?

Well.

I could use the very same argument when you comment on scenery achievements regarding MFS.

MFS is a huge step forward form previous versions of the MS FS franchise, and it's surely not perfect, nor was it before, but it's better, offers more features / detail / quality and performance. and I really like it for that and for being able to use it, not for the flight dynamics but rather for the scenery similitude with reality when planning RW soaring flights.

Now, as Murmur pointed out, me or him never said / wrote XP's FM is PERFECT, nor did Austin, but what is coming with XP12 is surely a great stpe forward from X-plane 11, FM and weather modelling wise, so, it's POSITIVE, and it PROGGRESS !  What can one argue against that jarmstro ?  You sometimes lose the validity of some of your arguments with your unnecessarily always negative posture regarding X-Plane.

You can see comments from me, and many others including Murmur, where I am very critic about XP, just as I am about MFS, Aerowinx PSX, Condorsoaring, DCS World, IL-2 Sturmovik, AEFS2... any flight simulator I have ever used, but I don't need to come here and always have something detrimental to say about XP just because yes I'm ( always ) in that mood... specially because I don't see you doing the same at the MFS forum ? Or, am I missing the fact that MFS is indeed perfect ?

Usually. You are old enough to be wise but the pattern of silly questions says otherwise. You probably just like fishing and meant to say trolling for fish,

Those weather / atmosphere changes look really exciting. Any news on what data sources XP12 will use over and above what was already used for XP11 (apologies if it’s already there)?

If you watch the Video he talks about it. Than you wont need to ask and you will get the info first hand.
