PMDG taxi lights

Featured Replies

Hi guys, anyone got a trick to make the PMDG nose taxi lights to actually light up something ? They are very weak and do no illuminate 5 meters from the plane.

I tried this addon called "new light" and the problem is its making strobe lights and beacon lights really OP.

Is it possible to maybe just change a value somewhere ?

thanks !

Do you turn on all three taxi lights and runway turnof lights? I did not notice any problems finding the taxiway at night.

For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.

I remember this same issue in P3D where nose taxi lights were never bright enough.

It must be those new energy-saving bulbs.

I don't think there's much you can do. I also have the same issue. It's kind of laughable how non-existent those "lights" are, considering actual landing lights are quite bright.

Just the nosewheel light is brutally bright. I’ve marshalled 737’s when the pilot forgot to turn off the taxi light. I would stop them and point to my eyes to get their attention. I don’t know why PMDG has an issue with this. As stated previously they had the same issue in P3D.

I also think they're not bright enough, but would love to hear back from someone with experience in the real deal to find out if the brightness is close, or way off.

Be careful how you talk about PMDG and Aerosoft around these parts. Every other Dev is open game.

I just downloaded this addon and it makes a huge difference!  I did not know they had modified the PMDG aircraft.  If you go into the New Light file for the PMDG 737 in your community folder, open the SimObjects/Airplanes/PMDG 737-700.  The systems.cfg file has all of the light settings so I wonder if you can just delete the ones you do not want and just keep the Taxi/Landing lights?  Just an idea and would probably work.  I have not done it as I like the look of the other lights with this mod....really brightens them up to a more realistic level.

Thanks i will try it. Don't you find the beacon and strobes super over powered ?

Yes, after doing a night flight the beacon is a bit bright, reminds me more of an LED beacon.  What I did was copy the 'Beacon' light entries from the official PMDG 'systems.cfg' file over to the New_Light_737 systems.cfg.  Simply delete the entries in the New_Light file and paste the original PMDG entry.  You could do the same thing with the strobe lights as well.  I did not try deleting the Beacon entry as I noted in my prior post so not sure if that would work also.
