Different Editions - Worth it?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Was looking at the different editions of MFSF, and wondering if the deluxe/premium are worth it.

Basing it on the fact that as a gamepass subscriber, I already have access to the base version, something that would not seem to ever go away as with all MS first party titles, and mainly the fact that while I know you get an extra 5/10 planes and 5/10 airports with dlxp/premium respectively,  are those addons worth it, being I see there's a lot of 3rd party ones being released?

For example, I saw there's an A320 included, yet there's already the Fenix A320 released which is supposedly much better? I know the 320 comes with base anyway, but for the dlx/premium content, is it worth it if there are better payware addons? Or in other words, if I will buy the 3rd party addon anyway, why would one spend extra money for the other versions? (Same for airports).

It depends what you want.  There were a few aircraft I wanted that were only available in the higher versions.  In terms of the extra enhanced airports they’re not quite at the level of high quality payware but will largely suffice if it’s a location you don’t fly into a lot (or if you’re just not that picky).  In some cases (ATL) the included airport is better than the payware alternative.

My view when choosing was that the extra cost for the higher versions wasn’t much in the grand scheme of things and I’d rather have it than wish I had it.

I'll second regis, when I got MSFS I looked at the aircraft and airport list and decided, ok, I want these aircraft and those enhanced airports (Steam gauge props, FACT, HECA) . The other aircraft and airports I'll pick up from my favorite developers when they get them ported over (eg 787, EGLL, EDDF) so I decided Deluxe was best for me.

So were the aircraft you wanted not available form 3rd parties in a better version?

Right, there are aircraft I like but my thinking is:

Are these included extra aircraft that I want of good quality, or is there a version of them that are better and I will end up buying, and in which case why spend extra for aircraft that I like but will replace anyway?  See what I mean?

I bought it day 1 so none were available anywhere else.  Looking back at the list the ones I like most are the SR22, Baron and C172 with steam gauges and none are available elsewhere as of now.  I thought I'd use the 787 but that didn't pan out.  I also get some use out of the Diamonds that come with the deluxe version.

The SR22 and steam C172 are both aircraft I spend a lot of time in, even with the plethora of addon single engine GA aircraft available now.

For the Uber doober premium version you basically get some other airports done to almost payware-ish levels and some planes.

The extra planes I care about the most are the analogue C172, the Baron and the Citation Longitude.  Mostly the Longitude because it's going to get an awesome free update for systems and avionics by the Working Title team.

I think there is also an analogue Diamond DA40, a weird but slow LSA/floats and probably a few other planes I'm forgetting.  None of the stock planes are systems deep.  For me since day one I planned on the Uber doober version so that's what I stuck with.

Horses for courses really.  It depends what you need or want.  For me, it had to be the Premium Deluxe version as I wanted the steam gauge version of the C172, but previous experiences told me that if I didn't get the best version, I would end up regretting it in the future.

After the hundreds of £ I paid to upgrade my hardware, the difference in price was a drop in the ocean really.

What is the 40th Anniversary Edition? Is it a special edition of the Standard version of MSFS, or are the extra features/planes going to be staggered across the three versions again?

I've done this, and I didn't mess anything up. But there are some dependencies, like (IIRC) some planes are required to install some world updates I think?

I have the premium deluxe version but apart from the steam gauge 172 I don't think I use much else of the "premium deluxe" stuff.

Yup, all that stuff. Discovery, bush flights, flight lessons. Aircraft I wasn’t using, liveries. Even some airports where I had a payware option e.g. EGLL.

Why on Earth would specific plane models be required to install some world updates?

Same here...Denver International looks pretty good, but the "handcrafted" Deluxe version of the airport has terrain rifts on the taxiways that make taxiing an airliner resemble driving an M1A2 Abrams tank across a plowed field.

Had I to do it over again, I wouldn't have gone beyond the standard edition.
