Yeah a choice of Download size would be nice, I went too low with 1024 so redoing them at 2048!

Yeah, 2048 is what I use.

A few years ago I wrote an app to handle texture conversion of all sorts of files for Prepar3D AI traffic.  The other day I came across this thread and have updated the app I wrote to support MSFS AI

  • If I can figure out a way to optimise these textures easily with a batch command with free software, I'll share it here for everyone to follow..

  • Hi All, I've just published a new version (1.3) of my Texture Optimizer tool.  This version addresses several issues in 1.2 and adds a bunch of new optional parameters that allow you to fine-tune

You see the total file size difference of the folder afterwards?

Amazing right?

Yeah 32gb to 4gb 😄 quick look in game and it looked like Quake in the 90s so hence I'm redoing them a bit higher!

32GB? Mine was 37.9GB, wonder why yours was only 32GB.

I remember shrinking mine from 36 GB to 2.2GB using 2048s, this was before the new update though so makes sense.

Also did you get any compression errors in the log after it completed?

I was using the XnViewMP tool though...

yeah there was a list of things it couldn't do followed by some errors, not too fussed by them but if I see any weird textures on aircraft in game then that might explain it.

Sorry but 2048 never got it to 2.2GB, it was 12.2GB before the update. Unless it's different with XnViewMP.

Question, I am currently resizing to 2048. I have not ran the update yet. Pardon my possible ignorance, but do I have to re-size after an FSTL Update?

Yea this was a while back but...I've also had about 97 errors after it was done compressing.

No apparent issues in sim though with any visuals.

Yep, run the base model updater first before touching any resizing, or else you'd just be going backwards.

OK thanks, I'll let it finish...I'll just have to re-run it.

Yes, after every FSLTL you will have to resize, but you can resize only the updated textures to save time. The procedure to do that is in the "Re-Running the Texture Optimizer" section in this link:

https://izn-flightsim.s3.amazonaws.com/textureoptimizer.html

You have to keep the backup of the original files and place them in the folder again if you want to just resize the updated textures. Read the instructions carefully.

The new update algorithm that only adds new liveries is very welcome😍 (I remember former updates were always reloading the complete package) - now we don't have to resize the whole thing. But don't forget to resize the textures in the effects folder, as these are still replaced by the large versions every update!

Finally able to get it down from 35GB to only 14GB. Great stuff! Also, off topic, not sure if this program can be used for AIG textures. But FYI, I reduced the size of AIG textures using the AIG Mangaer,  under settings there is a "verifytextureformat" button and a check box "use 2048px textures". I tried it and gained 7GB (42GB to 35GB).
