October 15, 20223 yr I like science fiction movies...good ones and old ones. Two are playing on TCM this evening back to back. THX-1120 and RoboCop. I haven't seen either one. Recommendations? Noel The tires are worn. The shocks are shot. The steering is wobbly. But the engine still runs fine.
October 15, 20223 yr Moderator Thanks for the information. I hadn't checked until just now, but I do get TCM via my DISH account. I'm not that interested in THX-1138, but RoboCop will be a delight to watch again, providing I can stay awake that late! 😉 Fr. October 15, 20223 yr Administrators Another CRS moment, Noel?? That would be THX 1138. A great film by George Lucas. 🙃 Charlie AronAVSIM Board of Directors-ADMIN/Moderator-RegistrarJust going to run a Chromebook and not upgrade to a Windows computer. October 15, 20223 yr Author Thanks guys, I'll watch them both. We're an hour earlier than you are Fr Bob. THX starts at 6:00 and Robo Cop is on until 10:00. Still an hour to go before my bed time. 1 hour ago, charliearon said: Another CRS moment, Noel?? That would be THX 1138. I had it written down correctly and still got it wrong. Yep, another CRS moment. The tires are worn. The shocks are shot. The steering is wobbly. But the engine still runs fine.
October 15, 20223 yr Definitely THX, if I had to choose one. Robert Duvall is great. I believe this was Lukas' first film. It was made on a very modest budget, yet really works well. Robocop is watchable but filled with too much 80's vibes for me. And, there's no zombies in THX. October 15, 20223 yr THX-1138 (this was george lucas' telephone number) THX is 849 on the old phone dial. 415-849-1138 = THX-1138 in the San Francisco 415 district. Lucas made the first version as a graduate student at UCLA majoring in film. This was his expanded theatrical version, proving his career had started. Next came American Graffiti, and Star Wars. He got the idea from listening to the Aircraft bands broadcasting at the local airports in Northern California on a scanner radio. ATC announcing runways and so forth and clearing and denying. The voice coming over the receiver was the boss. American Grafitti was also based on his own real life in Modesto, Ca. 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. Crystal Light VR.
October 16, 20223 yr Author I fell asleep during THX-1138. Kinda boring. Robocop? I kept watching to see how it ended but too much gratuitous violence. I'll stick the old westerns, musicals, and feel good movies. They're more my style. Noel The tires are worn. The shocks are shot. The steering is wobbly. But the engine still runs fine.

I was going to warn you about RoboCop but you've already watched it. Violence is obviously part of an action movie, but utterly gratuitous in RoboCop. Violence and cruelty just for the sake of it. Check out the new version of The Day The Earth Stood Still with Keanu, good film. The new Dune movie is good. If you aren't keen on Arnie, check out the newer version of Total Recall. If you do like Arnie then that version. The movie based on the Firefly TV series, Serenity. The original Blade Runner and the new version. This Island Earth, one of my favourites. At the beginning when they are shooting the police officer just to make him suffer before the last shot which was supposed to kill him. And the glee they expressed while doing it. I'm glad I watched it because now I know to avoid those kinds of movies in the future. I suppose todays shoot-em-up video games are much the same. Keep shooting a target in the places to make him squirm. Noel The tires are worn. The shocks are shot. The steering is wobbly. But the engine still runs fine.

I play lots of FPS games. None of them are particularly gratuitous. There's no squirming. Edited October 17, 20223 yr by martin-w
