November 9, 20223 yr Probably it had been announced before, but I didn't know until this early morning, Meigs Fields in Chicago is supposedly coming back next Friday with SU11. It was the default airport in FS for years: https://twitter.com/MSFSofficial/status/1590051827298754560?s=20&t=Guqjr5KldO_K4ePp3vJ-Og Will it be optional through the Marketplace or embedded within the rest of the update?. We'll see... November 9, 20223 yr It’s part of the 40th Anniversary update, so it won’t be an optional download. Those who don’t want it will be able to delete it from the content manager after. Edited November 9, 20223 yr by Tuskin38
November 9, 20223 yr I remember the days flying the Cessna Skylane RG II from Meigs and dodging those buildings, then coming around for a landing.. It was as good as it gets, back in the day. Roy i7-10700 CPU @2.90 GHz, 32 GB Ram, nVadia GTX1660ti, Samsung 1 TB SSD Drive

My expectations are you will need to go to the marketplace / content manager to add it in for free, just like the world updates. Not sure about the 12 (maybe more ) aircraft yet. They may actually be like the default aircraft and added into the core sim, however, weren't the other freebies like the Volocopter, and that Halo spacecraft thing optional from the marketplace as well? Not being argumentative, just trying to make a best guess as to how it will work. I suppose we don't have long to wait now anyway. Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind). Based on what Asobo has said, none of the 40th anniversary content will be optional, this is just like the GOTY update from last year. The Volocopter wasn’t an optional download either, it’s been part of the base sim since it released last year. But you can delete it via the content manager if you don’t want it. The Pelican was optional. That wasn’t forced on anyone. Edited November 9, 20223 yr by Tuskin38
November 9, 20223 yr Just a note to anyone looking at the Orbx Chicago city pack to maybe compliment this. (not actually done by Orbx I believe, maybe Drzewiecki Design?) In short, I wouldn't bother. It is beautiful without a doubt, but not optimised at all. Even on my decent PC (specs below), it brings my PC to a crawl (12-15fps) when flying close (about maybe 1/2 mile away). I don't get this with Orbx London. All we can hope is that Asobo do something about the city when they do Meigs, as the default skyscrapers are awful and are barely recognisable. There are some really excellent Chicago addons (skyscraper packs) on flightsim.to that don't eat the frames so much! Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind). OK, thanks for that - my memory is unreliable that far back now. GOTY! Seems so long ago now. Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind). I have the Chicago City Pack (by Dzewiecki Design, purchased through ORBX Direct), very nice, but it placed the real park that exists nowadays all over the place Meigs Field was, so I don't know if it'll be bothered by the re-addition on Meigs, or something will have to be done playing with the content.xml's new format. I remember downloading Meigs Field from Flightsim.to a while ago for free (the same developer offered a payware version too), but after the installation of the Chicago City Pack it was hidden by the new package. Let's see what happens with the upcoming SU11. To me, it would be nice having Meigs Field again now that we can also have those beautiful Chicago downtown buildings to fly by as close as we would like. November 9, 20223 yr Hi, I don't think I'm going to use it. It doesn't exist any more (I think since 2003, I am right?). I prefer that asobo improve the simulator: aircraft, airports, mesh, roads, etc. Regards.
November 9, 20223 yr It might not exist any more in the real world, but it's definitely fitting for a 40th anniversary edition. I, for one, welcome this - I have fond memories of Meigs in FS3 and FS4, and it's a sign to me that Asobo understand their legacy.
November 9, 20223 yr Wouldn't be realistic, but my furthest memories of using a flight simulator are those of trying to land the Learjet at Meigs 🙂 I surely would like to get Meigs back... Also even if they did make the airport, none of the people working on an airport would normally be working on aircraft systems. Two different jobs and skill sets.
