November 10, 20223 yr Meigs Field is a special place for flight sim. For me, like for many others, it‘s where simming began, quite literally. The first version I played was 5.1 and I would do most of my flights out of Meigs. I was only a kid then and didn‘t know much nor care to know about all the systems and procedures, I just wanted to fly around the skyscrapers of Chicago and enjoy the scenery (back then I really thought it looked fantastic). I‘ll definitely take the c172 for a spin around the city, just for nostalgia‘s sake. i9-11900K, RTX 4090, 32 GB ram, Honeycomb Alpha and Bravo, TCA Airbus sidestick and quadrant, Reverb G2
November 10, 20223 yr Sounds like they would make a lot of money if they released an MSFS1 emulator at the same time as the Anniversary update. 9950X3D - X870E Aorus Master- TUF 5090 OC - 64GB DDR5 - 1500W HXi - Titan 360 RX LCD - 9100 Pro x 2 - LG 45GX950A - HOTAS Warthog with Ava Base
November 10, 20223 yr It's not just Meigs that brings back the memories. I remember these: Frasca Field (there's payware for this for MSFS) Pontiac VOR the New York/Boston area: Meriden-Markham Muni (it rolls off the tongue) Block Island State Republic (an airport, home of the P-47) the Scenery disk for the east coast: Glynco Jetport (now totally renamed...google it and see what pops up now) Pahokee Immokalee New Bern-Simmons Nott (now also renamed, but I still use the old name) Manteo Dare Co. (First Flight Airport didn't exist in the scenery, and maybe not in real life at the time) Salisbury-Wicomico Co. Good ol' Taylor VOR in Florida and Brooksville-Hernando Co. airport (now renamed...) Shuttle Landing Facility Cape Canaveral Skid Pad (what a cool name...) Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB

(later on Charlie Gulicks books "40 great flight simulator adventures" and " 40 more...." helped my imagination a lot ) I didn't have those books, but I had the successor, Flight Simulator Co-Pilot (which still sits on my shelf). Reading what you wrote reminds me of some quotes from the book's preface. "Enhanced by our ability to imagine, their monotonous stretches of green and blue become the green of real earth and the blue of true sky." (The "their" refers to the various versions of Flight Simulator II for different computers.) "If we set time to a minute or so after dawn in the Editor, then exit to fly, it becomes early morning out there even though the scene is no different from noon. All we have to do is fantasize a little and we can smell the morning freshness. We can see the dew on that too-green grass. We can sense that the sun is somewhat new, even in that absolute and all-too-flawless blue." Those quotes seem quaint now, given what we have in in MSFS today, but they're still very relevant. No flight simulator will ever be perfect. Instead of becoming frustrated at the imperfections, Gulick's words are a reminder to use our imagination to transcend the imperfections and transport ourselves, in our minds, to the world we're simulating. That's what flight simulation is about, and it's true today just as much as when those words were written almost 40 years ago. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!

They do need some work, and it would make sense now that they have added Meigs. If not, after ditching the DD Chicago landmarks for such poor performance, I will go and get the Chicago scenery mods from flightsim.to and give them a go. Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind). You can probably uninstall it from the content manager if you don’t want it. It was said when he 40th was announced that their would be multiple airports, but that hasn’t been mentioned yet. I wonder if it was a miscommunication. We know there were be custom heliports/pads added, and glider friendly fields. Edited November 10, 20223 yr by Tuskin38

November 10, 20223 yr Author Just to share some information, in case you want to keep the upcoming (or any other, as there are several ones already available) SU11's Meigs Field installed together with Drzewiecki Design Chicago Landmarks, edit your "new" content.xml file to something like this: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?> <Priorities> <Package name="your-existing-prioritized-package-1" priority="x"/> ... etc .... <Package name="drzewieckidesign-chicagolandmarks" priority="2"/> <Package name="your-meigs-field-package-name" priority="3"/> </Priorities> Just put the correct name of your Meigs Field package exactly as it looks in your CF. November 10, 20223 yr I am currently using this freeware Meigs Field which works just fine with DD Chicago Landmarks. https://flightsim.to/file/834/merril-c-meigs-field-kcgx Bert
November 11, 20223 yr I'm also using the freeware Meigs...works fine and looks great. Has an option to start in a hanger I think. How much better can the new one be?
November 11, 20223 yr Someone asked about other airports, there's 3 'Classic commercial' airports coming along side Meigs, but they haven't been revealed, we'll probably have to wait for the update to drop to find out. https://fselite.net/content/msfs-40th-anniversary-edition-date-announcement-local-legends-and-city-update-1/ Since they're apparently not against adding closed airports, they could really be anything. Maybe we'll get Kai Tak too! Edited November 11, 20223 yr by Tuskin38
