What do you think of the Wind Gusts in SU11 vs SU10?

Featured Replies

Just wondering what's everyone's thoughts on the wind gusts now in SU11.  I'm in the camp that loved the gusts added to the sim.👍  Justing wondering have they been toned down in SU11.

You caused me to laugh so hard I almost lost my supper.  "Oh no, not again" could be taken both ways, LOL!

If you don't want them, turn off the gusts. There will be zero wind. But you have to click on the turbulence icon down at ground level to do that, just picking Clear and setting gusts to 0 won't do it.

I edited my original post so my meaning is clearer.🧐

They are toned down in SU11. But not by a lot.

Very satisfied with the , imho, more realistic weather. And if you don’t like the guts you just turn them off like Fielder wrote…

I'm finding it hard to locate a reason not to like MSFS sim update 11. I don't mind the weather engine. The AI planes and ATC are not the best and In real life, the ATC acting like that would cause major issues.

But I can just ignore what I hear on the radio and proceed to land according to my flight plan. Armed guards are not going to run out and arrest me the pilot for being disobedient. 😁

I did just one flight in SU11 and gusts seems a bit better, but not much.

The thermals chuck you around a bit in the middle of the day in summer if you like to fly low and slow.  Unfortunately, that's also when the lighting looks best in msfs. I would say it's pretty realistic if you compare it to times and days with no thermal activity.

If I were being super critical, I would say maybe slightly overdone.

Ryzen 5800X3D, Nvidia RTX5080 - 32 Gig DDR4 RAM, 1TB & 2 TB NVME drives - Windows 11 64 bit MSFS 2024 Premium Deluxe Edition Resolution 2560 x 1440 (32 inch curved monitor)

Yes but down low near the ground is the one place where you can turn off all gusts, and then turn them back on to how you would rather have them using sliders. So if I'm testing a new plane to learn how it behaves, then I can turn off all gusts in about 15 seconds before going to the FLY or during the flight using the overhead bar.

There is no box to click that says turn off gusts. But there is an icon that looks like a little whirlwind down at ground leve. When you click on that icon, then a box pops up asking if you want to delete this gust layer. Then click that. Now you can reset those lower elevation gusts to something else, or just leave them to zero.

Seems fine but I get pushed off the centreline heaps now?

Pardon my ignorance, but is this valid for live weather as well? I didn't spot such an icon. (I was at ground level)

Thanks.

I'm not sure because I never use live weather.

This is for the screen that pops up with the weather icon in the handlebar. There's  a whole bunch of choices. There are little whirlwind icons on the chart. If you click on one, then a tiny window opens asking if you want to delete this layer.

The icon near the ground is the one I mentioned because that comes into play when you are rotating and landing. More importantly MSFS will always inject turbulence near ground level no matter what weather you have preset. And there's no way to turn it off without doing this song and dance. After turning it off then you can then reset with sliders to a more realistic level.

Thanks, Fielder, I checked,  it didn't work under live weather, which is logical I guess 🙂
