Major Framerate Drop.

Yes, FSLTL could be responsible as well. Try reducing the FSLTL settings - lower it by 90% and see if that fixes it.

Sometimes, I don't use FSLTL and I still get the same issue.

Can someone explain, in short, what they think is happening which is causing this issue.

What is GAIST

GAIST is Henrik's (@KL791) Global AI Shipping Traffic freeware add-on.
It can use a lot of PC resource on some systems as it's AI traffic being generated in the usual XX nm radius traffic bubble around your aircraft.

I'm intrigued by @Dillon's suggestion on another thread that frame rate drop *could* relate to using the default ATC. Do you use it?
I don't and don't suffer from this loss of frames. Just something to try.

Yep......its happend to me a few times these past few weeks, exact same thing...finished up having to restart the sim to do do the second leg of a flight after my first 2 hour plus flight....cant weigh it up

Toggling Photogrammetry OFF -> ON once usually solves any FPS drop-over-time for me.

For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.

Well, I don't use GAIST or default ATC......

I’ve been hesitant to turn PG off. I really enjoy having it on, but the perf improvement may be too good to pass up.

Not a framerate drop in what's described here, but rather a slow degradation in ATC functionality and then a CTD later on.  This is if you use the default flight planner to setup the route and then fly  the route using default ATC for clearance, altitude changes, etc.😕

I nearly always fly out of and into detailed payware airports, with most MSFS settings on Ultra (except clouds at High and shadows at Medium or Low). I have TLOD of 250, OLOD 200 on an ultra wide monitor, with quite a bit of AI traffic from PSXT.

In theory, I should be hammered by whatever FPS problem exists that's plaguing people here.

How I use my sim differently to other simmers, it seems:

  • Don't use default ATC
  • Don't use the default route planner
  • Photogrammetry turned off
  • Don't use AI traffic injectors programs (FSLTL or AIG)
  • AIG and FSLTL AI aircraft textures all reduced to 2048 x 2048 and mipmapped
  • MSFS' live real-world traffic and multiplayer turned off
  • Traffic nameplates and POI markers turned off
  • No HUD for external views
  • Render scaling: 100
  • Rolling cache off
  • Airport vehicle, ground aircraft, worker density to 0
  • Leisure boats off, road vehicles 25 or less, ships and ferries at 10
  • GAIST .bgl scenery files only for the continent I'm about to fly in
  • All user aircraft with 4K liveries or less
  • Anisotropic filtering 16x set off in MSFS, set 16x in NCP
  • Vsync of 30 FPS set externally in NCP. Max FPS for background programs also set at 30 FPS in NCP
  • Power management mode in NCP set at Prefer maximum performance.

Then again, maybe it's nothing we can control and some PC setups are just much less/not susceptible to this FPS degradation or the frequent CTD issues.

No, I don't mean turn it off entirely, I mean switch it off, then switch on again directly after that. This clears some sort of hidden cache or whatever that leads to a performance degradation during multiple hour flights. At least for me.

Every one of those items on your list, is exactly what I do as well.

Literally as I read through this forums my FPS tanks over the Chicago area and then CTD.

Exception code: 0xc0000005
Fault offset: 0x0000000004905cd0
Faulting process id: 0x1a70
Faulting application start time: 0x01d90cbaaeeaaade

I ONLY had the SF50 Jet as a mod....

This is so frustrating. I cant even fly long haul flights with FPS loss to single digits or a CTD.

Looks like I'll be going back to woodworking or something else until this is fixed.

It doesn't really matter what your settings are, what mods you have etc. This is Asobo. If I have everything turned off and fly the EXACT same route (I test the sim often) and it crashes randomly then its not my settings or anything. Its Asobo. Some nasty garbage buried into the code that doesn't agree with my PC.

I participated in the 'Fly and see Santa' event on VATSIM tonight.  Before flying, I deleted the rolling cache and I had no framerate issue tonight.  So who knows if that's what's causing it....

A story of 3 parts... 😉

Genuinely, I hope that fixes the sim for you.
