The problem I find is that my ORBX Direct purchases do not show up in on the Marketplace map.

They should show up in your Content Manager.

There is a record of all purchases in your account and, every time I purchase from the MarketPlace, I get an email with confirmation order # after purchase purchase, like this for my records:

There is also a link at the bottom to see all past purchases. I think this works very well.

Which is totally useless if you want direct support from the dev  that involves shipping an updated product as they have no proof you own their particular product.

For example, if you are having issues that a beta update could fix, you are locked out from accessing it as a marketplace purchaser.

A good compromise is the Orbx Store which offers automatic updates of all products through Orbx Central without all the downsides of the Marketplace (no receipt, demilled aircraft, very slow updates etc etc)

I will only buy from the Marketplace if I have no other alternative.

Another vote here for not buying aircraft from the marketplace because the .cfg files are encrypted. However, I have purchased a couple scenery products from the marketplace.

Yes it is true, no direct contact for Beta versions unless it is an ASOBO product, and you partake in the BETA program.

But every single addition I have bought in the Market place has been updated, maybe a week or 2 later than the direct purchase version. But that does not bother me. If the quick updates is essential for you then buy direct from the developer. But most developers will submit to MP or ORBX when they have an official fix. Yes even ORBX takes longer sometimes than a direct purchase.

I have so many great locations and aircraft to fly in FS2020, that it is not a problem for me to wait a bit. And sometimes there will be a fix from a third party that actually messes up the whole sim. I have never seen this from the MP.

As I said earlier, lots of different opinions here and that is good.

For me the MP and ORBX are my favorite places for adding, though I use a few others as well. I just love the convenience of MP. And all your purchases show up in Content Manager even if uninstalled. And your Community adding show up there as well. If an add-on is available on the MP I will always prefer buying it there, for the convenience. I don't have a need to modify any files, but if you do then the MP is not for you.

It is all good and it is only another computer game after all. Not anything your life or making a living with is in the balance. It is for fun. And it is a lot of fun.

Hi 177B,

I use both the marketplace and ORBX's Direct app for MSFS scenery.  The problem I find is that my ORBX Direct purchases do not show up in on the Marketplace map.  I have be careful that I don't buy the same scenery twice.  Do you have ideas on how to fix this so that my ORBX Direct purchases show up in the Marketplace?

Thanks!

Rich Boll

Hi Rich,

I have asked this question on Orbx. Apparently, I can't be done. My solution has been to create a Word document which I regularly update with every purchase.

I use excel to do the same. I automated a few things so when I enter the ICAO of an airport I already have it gets highlighted so I know either not to buy it or to disable the older one. I have also added all the WU airports for this

It also gives me a total cost of all purchases which might not have been a good idea😟

Just had a hard-drive issue with my PC and had to re-install MSFS. Having purchased most of my airports via the Marketplace, the process was relatively simple and painless. Compare that to my P3D times where I had to download hundreds of items in different stores and then manually install/activate them and I could not be happier with the current possibilities that we have. Keeping the ecosystem balanced, purchasing from the Marketplace when possible, and from third-party stores when not, seems like a no-brainer to me.

Besides, and this something that might not be appreciated in this forum, the fact that add-ons in the Marketplace are much cheaper in less favored currencies is for sure an amazing opportunity for simmers living in developing countries.

Marketplace whenever it's an option.  I've had to do three total installs--and two complete reinstalls after new installs of Win 10:  what's great is there is NO NEED to go elsewhere it's all there ready to be installed again.  Unfortuntely not all addons can come thru the Marketplace so we must reinstall their respective installers etc when it comes time to do a complete reinstall.  IOW if I could buy all thru the Marketplace I sure would.  Having updates show up a week later is no problem whatsoever because for starters--you'll know there's an update due, whereas you likely won't when it's whomever's installer unless you open and run it and that includes PMDG, Orbx, Aerosoft, etc.  One-stop shopping is always my preference:  KISS
