PMDG Update

My community folder is in the APPDATA folder, so I'm not sure where to look. This is the first I have heard that there is 2 PMDG flight plan/weather folders. Doing some file searching now, and all I am finding is the community folder that I have been using. Man, I hope I can figure this out. Thanks.

Trust me. There are two places with PMDG folders that contain  "Flightplan" and "WX" folders. One will be wherever your community folder is and that can be anywhere on any drive and THAT one will be the WRONG place to put them. I assure you that you are sending them to the wrong location. The location you should be sending them to for this to work is in a silly location and the file path will be different depending on whether you have the Steam version or MS store version if my memory serves me correctly. I have the Store version and can't give you the location off the top of my head. I will need to be at my other machine for that. But I very confident this is your problem. It's the same mistake I made. It's all in the manual, mate. If you follow the directions in the manual to the letter you won't have this problem but I suspect you have done what I did.

I have everything pretty much installed in the default location. I think I found the folder you mentioned. It is an exact copy of the folder I was sending it in, except it was in localstate subfolder vs localcache with the community folder. I will test this out after the update is complete, and then get back to you. Thanks for your help.

P.S. No sure if intentional or not, but you do come off slightly condescending. I do appreciate then help regardless, but maybe consider that next time you respond to someone else. We should all be friends here.

This looks right for the store version from my memory. Those two locations are where you need to tell the SimBrief downloader to put the two files if you run the Store version.

Awesome. Thanks so much, I had just found this curtesy of Jazz. Thanks a lot guys. I can't wait to verify this works.

This is what I show as well, and it works for planning a new flight without leaving the sim.

I indicated "store version" in the 1st line of my post.

It looks like an exact copy but it's not in that it's a function of how MSFS allows and doesn't allow things to be used when running. You will noticed that the files in there have a different icon even though they may be called the same thing.

Sorry you interpreted it that way but it's 03:30 in the morning and I have put off going to sleep to help you out. Precisely because we are all friends here. Sorry you felt I could have done more for you. Perhaps you could consider that before you respond to someone helping you in not quite the way you feel you would prefer.

It boggles my mind why people place the importance they do on a make-believe iPad.  It's not real

I explained this above.  I didn't think it was necessary to explain that nothing in a computer game is actually real.  😁

One small caveat...each 737 model (i.e. 736, 737, 738, 739) has its own download paths.  This was necessary for MSFS because they are separate packages and live in self-contained folder structures.

bngBvZ.png

So if you have the 737-700 and 600 for example, you need a download folder for each, along with a WX folder as show in the example above. (I don't have all my WX folders set for all the models in the example above)

Its really easy to just copy an existing one (if you have more than one 737), create a new line, paste and change the number to the desired model...that is what I did with the -900. 😉

Ahh, good contribution. This is good to know in case I get around to adding the 700 at some point which feels likely as not owning it seems to be a niggle that isn't going away for me despite telling myself that I wouldn't start buying varients beyond the 800 this time. I may well have overlooked that myself and knowing it will no doubt save me some frustrated minutes figuring out why it isn't working again 😆

Yeah if you have the -800, you certainly have the most popular model with many airlines to choose from to fly.   If you're strapped for cash and can only afford one model, the -600 is one of the best values in MSFS at the moment.  Being a beta tester lets me not worry about which one to buy if I had to choose...but on the other hand I have to test them, and that's quite a chore! 😉

I agree with you. I'm back to simulation after few years. I agree with you. Is it possible to put data for the flight plan directly to the FMC / MCDU? or now its all automatic from the EFB? i love to insert every single waypoint on the FMC/MCDU

Yes absolutely.  You can still enter all waypoints manually.  I like flying the A310 now and again but the Simbrief integration never works for me, but I quite enjoy entering the waypoints manually.

I'm enjoying the product. You want to keep crying over a missing an EFB be my guest. I don't give a rats word not allowed about the fact that others have an EFB. FBW / Fenix and company aren't PMDG and they have clearly different ways of going about things and different programming platforms that they have to work with. The fact that you feel entitled to ignore that is certainly not my problem ..

And spare me your bs about its 2023 .. some of the most mission critical code in use today was written as far back as the seventies and early eighties. Properly written code does not get old if the desired output remains the same.

^ ^ ^ ^ ^   Post of the year!  Well said.

Again, as I posted earlier in the thread, these EFBs that pull flight plans from Simbrief are unrealistic. They're about sim convenience, nothing more.  Loading a FP from within the FMC as per the PMDG is more realistic that sending a flight plan to the closed-loop, security protected FMC on an airliner.

I'll take the hate, but I would honestly prefer PMDG dropping the EFB all together and focussing 100% on the 777.

This isn't a response to your post, but an addition to what you said for folks who didn't know this before and are seeing it for the first time.

In addition to the PMDG folders above, be sure to also save the Simbrief flight plan as a "FS2020" flight plan somewhere as well. It can be anywhere you like that is convenient for you. When you start a flight, use the load flight plan from the world map screen to load the FS2020 flight plan and then select your gate and start your flight. After you load the flight plan into the FMC, both the airplane and the simulator will be working off of the same flight plan. ATC will work properly (well... you know... the best that it can...) and should use the same routing, altitude, SID and STAR.
