January 27, 20233 yr I was appalled by the state of Live weather after the introduction of METAR synthesis with SU7, but after SU11 I see reasonable cloudscapes returning, even overcast is oftentimes convincing- which was totally missing after said "update". Several weather related threads in the official forums have been tagged with "bug logged" recently, which by their official definition means bugs (and/or shortcomings?) have been identified. Maybe some of the fixes are applied server-side, or maybe we'll see further enhancements with future sim updates. In any case, after more than a year they thankfully seem to be back on track. January 27, 20233 yr I had some fantastic weather depiction while flying around Alaska in the Beaver checking out the Misty Shores addon (which is great, btw). The ocean/mountain terrain makes for really interesting and often changing cloud formations even on a nice weather day, and it was all displayed really nicely by the sim. I was quite impressed, especially with the early morning lighting filtering through the clouds and mist. Ryzen 7 7800X3D/B650 X AX | 5090 | 32gig | Win10 | Pimax Crystal Light
January 27, 20233 yr Interesting you mention this. Over the last few days I have noticed quite striking wx depiction. Flying between flying the layers I swear I was seeing style depictions I have not seen in the sim for over a year. Very nice indeed. January 27, 20233 yr Last week I was flying from Denver to California in the afternoon (actual flight). That morning I fired up MSFS and loaded KDEN. It was snowing, but here in the Springs we had sunny weather. I told the wife, "honey, it is snowing in Denver." I doubled checked the weather app, and what do you know...snowing. The depiction from the weather app and MSFS was spot on. Weather is pretty awesome in MSFS. 7950X3D | RTX 4090 | 96GB DDR5 | 4K G-Sync | Win11 Pro

Just to add to this, i think i dont have that constant twitching wind speed/direction at high altitude anymore. My 737 wing was flexing constantly cause of it. now its rock solid. January 28, 20233 yr Something changed very recently, and for the better hopefully not temporary. I have had short "glimpses" of this newer type of wx depiction in the past but it never "stuck". I just had a wonderful approach into KMIA. It's like we are starting to see glimpses of the clouds like they were at release. Not quite there yet, because staying in a METAR zone eventually see's clouds magically burn a "hole" or circle of clear skies above with puffy, ugly "cumulus mess". This happened tonight - excellent approach into KMIA (and a very good recreation of cloud deck), then once landed and parked for about 5 minutes the skies just kind of cleared in a circle above me. Strange! But the clouds outside of KMIA still looked like "nostalgic MSFS 2020" like at release! I hope this stays. The clouds also seem to be a bit more opaque, like a cloud should be. I seemed to be gaining the sense of speed back again when flying through them, like when MSFS first released. I hope this isn't just a placebo effect! Doesn't appear to be so more testing needed. I don't mind flying more lol! Edited January 28, 20233 yr by KERNEL32
January 28, 20233 yr I've seen a whole lot of very convincing weather of all types lately as well. Cloud depiction still suffers from low resolution as it were but they're doing a lot of good stuff despite that. January 29, 20233 yr I try to remain skeptical about these sorts of phantom improvements, but I'm experiencing almost perfect weather on my flight now from DFW up to YVR. The edges of the clouds and the jet stream have been exactly where they should be and match both windy.com and the GOES satellite imagery almost perfectly. I really have to wonder if they did something. Haven't run into a single ugly wind shift yet either. 😎 Tired of Streetlights everywhere? Try MSFS DarkStreets today!
January 29, 20233 yr Just completed a flight from KFLL to TNCM at FL300. Wind fluctuated a little bit - by roughly 5 kts but nothing like I was getting the last time I was in a jet at altitude, where it'd be bouncing up and down by 20-30kts. And there are the usual mild evening storms in the area, and I was relatively low so it matched what you'd expect. Either Asobo did something or the feed the sim is using to parse the weather conditions has been tuned. Either way, it's a great change that I hope sticks around. January 29, 20233 yr I have also noticed a significant improvement to the cloudscapes, particularly the depiction of cloud layers and also minimal wind shifts at altitude. I am hoping this is is indeed a reflection of changes server side producing more accurate data and better synthesis. Regardless, weather in MSFS now is certainly better than in any other sim I have used. MSFS 2024.
