April 14, 20233 yr Good day everyone, I've had MSFS (Steam version) installed on my system almost since it was released. Like many of you, I have tons of addons and numerous tweaks (many of which I've lost track of.) Lately, I've been getting a lot of CTDs which of course could be coming from a myriad of sources. Instead of searching for a needle in the haystack, I'm going to uninstall and start over fresh. My question is this: After uninstalling through Steam, will there be remnants remaining on my drive that I'll need to manually delete? I know this will be a long weekend project, but I only want to do it once 🙂 Thanks in advance! Brian MacMillan Intel Core i9 14900KF/64GB RAM/RTX 4080 Super/LG ULTRAWIDE (3440x1440@100Hz)
April 14, 20233 yr There may still be stuff in "%AppData%\Microsoft Flight Simulator" However, clearing that completely will delete your logbook and tracked hours. Edited April 14, 20233 yr by Tuskin38
April 14, 20233 yr I would try flying without anything in your community folder first and see what happens.
April 14, 20233 yr No - don't uninstall the game, as it may well delete components, files etc.. that you need - but don't know about. If you're bent on a re-install - get Revo Unistaller and do it with that - after it does a backup of what you're going to do, You''l be surprised at the number of files and registry entries an un-installation will take out. Far better to just do what @Bobsk8 says above, then use the file verification function of the Steam Client. Launch the client, select Library, then put the pointer on the game, then rt-clk: choose "Properties"->"Local Files"->"Verify Integrity of game files". Once that's done, reboot. Then launch the game to see what it looks like. You can then re-add your favourites addons one by one - maybe using Addons Linker, if you wish. i7 [email protected] | 32GB RAM | EVGA RTX 3080Ti | Maximus Hero VII | 512GB 860 Pro | 512GB 850 Pro | 256GB 840 Pro | 2TB 860 QVO | 1TB 870 EVO | Seagate 3TB Cloud | EVGA 1000 GQ | Win10 Pro | EK Custom water cooling.

My logbook stopped recording hours ages ago stuck at 943 hours when in reality have probably 2500 hours. Is there anything I can to do reenable logging? It was only 4 months ago or so I did a complete wipe of Win 10 and reinstalled everything. April 16, 20233 yr Author I ended up doing the reinstall. Yeah the DL was pretty lengthy but was anticipated. However, with just the generic sim installed and no addons...still getting CTDs 😂😂😂 Ah well, nothing lost but time! April 16, 20233 yr There's a good read on Nvidia version issues a few pages further back: Edit: If you don't know this one already - you might also run cmd.exe (as admin), and then run sfc /scannow It will find and fix a lot of file system errors. If you have a lot of add-ons you are running, it's likely one of the add-ons that is giving you a CTD. And most likely an add-on that is not compatible with SU 12. The easiest way to troubleshoot this is to use AddOn Linker. You can search for AddOn Linker at flightsim.to. AddOn Linker allows you to disable/enable the add-ons you will use for MSFS, for that session of MSFS that you launch. Specifically, AddOn Linker can empty your entire Community folder with a quick press of a button, or it can enable specific add-ons that you want for that session, also with a few clicks. So you can use AddOn Linker, to test your add-ons, until you isolate the add-on that is causing the CTD. Vanilla MSFS without any add-ons is pretty stable these days and unless your computer has inherent instabilities (which I had with overclocked RAM until I figured it out), or you are pushing MSFS beyond the capabilities of your computer's hardware, MSFS shouldn't crash on you that often. April 16, 20233 yr Yep: driver version is a biggee: could well be linked to DLSS, GPU incompatibilities, Nvidia Inspector settings, if it's installed. I also don't trust Nvidia Experience, nor their other accessories. i7 [email protected] | 32GB RAM | EVGA RTX 3080Ti | Maximus Hero VII | 512GB 860 Pro | 512GB 850 Pro | 256GB 840 Pro | 2TB 860 QVO | 1TB 870 EVO | Seagate 3TB Cloud | EVGA 1000 GQ | Win10 Pro | EK Custom water cooling.

Another data point for you -- I've been running nvidia driver 527.56 and it is very stable for my 3080ti. I don't run GeForce Experience. I hope you don't have a hardware problem. I'd disable your XMP/Expo profile as abrams suggests, and then run sim and see if it's stable. If you still get CTD then download MemTest86.
