What Is The Current State Of The Flysimware Cessna 414W?

...thinking of buying this.

Is this plane still in beta?

Any major and/or showstopping bugs?

Keeping in mind that I am not a real-life pilot, I can say that as far as  the sim goes, it's a pleasure to fly. High-quality everywhere and, quoting other members who are pilots, "only slightly below realism to the Blackbird C310" as far as flight model. One of my favorites for sure.

A great plane.  Good on frame rate considering its complexity.  Superb sounds.  Hand flies really nicely.  Can't think of any negatives.

Makes me feel like I am in the real thing sometimes, which is the general idea I suppose.

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

It's about as much still in beta as any released payware aircraft in that it could still be patched and updated just like anything else. I don't think anyone ever claims to have released a finished product. Having said that, this has had more updates than most but it has been truly excellent at every stage of it's ongoing development. I usually skip the minor tweaks and update every two or three versions 🙂

Yes and me, as it is a full package download every time.  I dread to think what their server data charges are like!

It has not been in Beta beyond July last year and is one of the very best GA addon. There are updates being released from time to time but they are essentially to ADD feature not to rectify bugs (which are quickly quashed whenever there is one). For example among the latest updates, the developer added functionality to circuit breakers, something only the very best simulated airplanes would offer.

All aspects of the software have been modeled with the greatest attention to details, including lighting and sounds which are all immersive and taken from the original plane made available to the developer.

In short a recommendation at the same level as A2A for P3D or now BlackSquare for MSFS. You won't regret it.

It appears to be available on the market place as well. Is there a disadvantage to buying this plane on the market place, except for the slower updates? Addon liveries work on all site-versions (flysimware, simmarket, market place)?

That would be an entirely personal choice. I wouldn't buy anything on the marketplace if it was available elsewhere but certainly not something which is updated as often as this has been. Even if I sometimes decide that a particular tweak isn't worth a reinstall, I would absolutely want to have the choice as soon as it is updated and not have to wait weeks for it.

As Matt mentioned on the WT discord yesterday, buying on the Marketplace is the best way to ensure that his team (and all other MSFS developers) has a platform to continue developing in future 😉, but one extra potential reason for not doing so in this case is the fact that a purchase directly from the Flysimware website isn't encrypted in the same way, allowing for more tweaks to be made to the aircraft.

The latest round of updates over the past 3 weeks or so (not yet available in the MP) have been a bit painful, leading to some tweaks being needed in the aircraft folder itself, as well as re-mapping of control inputs in things like AAO and Spad.Next (not impacted by the MP encryption). It was belatedly named a beta release, but only after a lot of people had prematurely updated to it. Lessons learned on all sides, and Momo, the developer, is really trying his best, and coming out with big wins far more often than the issues experienced over the last few weeks.

Don't let this put you off though! The aircraft is a dream to fly, and the latest hotfix from yesterday appears to have squashed a lot of bugs introduced in the last three weeks and resolved the controller assignment issues.

The aircraft soundset is the very best in the sim, if you ask me—there's something so satisfying about the landing thud in this aircraft that I don't experience on any other plane—and the handling in the air feels sublime. I've also got the BS Bonanza, WBSim 172 as well, and find myself flying this one far more often.

Do yourself a favour and buy it! And if you do buy it from the Marketplace, you'll get version 3.4.4 which, although slightly less feature rich for now, is perfectly stable and is only missing a few circuit breakers and under-the-hood circuitry rewrites (to support future improvements and failures).

clarity, grammar!

There was a patch yesterday?

There is a very good argument that it is the best overall ga twin in the game right now. Well worth the purchase.

It's a great addon - not quite as in depth as the Black Square Baron or Milviz C310 but still excellent!  Great sounds, tons of switches - it's a real pilots plane.  And there are many repaints for it!
