And since that kind of rant is always popular among a certain reactionary crowd, someone thought it was a great idea to give it some visibility here.

Well, let the fun continue, will you ?

I pride myself to be reactionary, elitist and, why not, for the price I can add, gatekeeper.

And I found this clip a little ludicrous.

The FS franchise has always been, since the day it was born, about roleplaying, first with simple aircraft and then, more recently, with more sophisticated birds. Missions have always been here. Mastering a complex system for the fun of it, is also roleplaying of sort.

Has the flight and weather engines been dumbed down in FS 20, will they be in FS24 ? Obviously not. That the main point. The rest is the dressing up.

And, oh yes, heck !, even in my RPG I want the ballistics right.

I’m sure I’m not alone in applauding this decision 🙂

Typical avsim critter who has zero opinions of their own and nothing worthy to contribute other than childlike insults. Did it make you feel better my little NPC buddy? Bless your cotton socks hahahaha. Another minion of these out-of-touch, egotistical, slowpaced legacy devs who will defend them as though they have a share in their business.

Come on showcase some intellectual opinions on why you disagree instead of pathetic, meaningless antic. Smh toxic toxic toxic tut tut tut.

Oh he absolutely did, to quote his own words:

Basically, those who enjoy the "fantasy roleplay" are "gamers" while the airliners dudes (who fly PMDG) are the "serious aviation enthusiasts." Suuuure. 😂

Imagine how completely out of touch with aviation and utterly self-centered one has to be to think that Search and Rescue, Air Ambulance, Aerial Firefighting, VIP Charter, industrial transport, etcetera are "fantasy" roleplay. Last time I checked the trailer, I'm fairly sure I never saw any dragon riding 😂

Take out the "fantasy". It it is role-playing. But it is also simulating. Having visuals now to increase the immersion is both attractive for serious simmers like myself who have had a PPL for  years now (soon to g3t my CPL in a few years I hope) as well as casual gamers who just want to pick-up n play.

That said can we make something abundantly clear?

Flight simulators have extremely diverse users. I am a real pilot. There are guys and girls who fly real commercial airliners that use this for both fun (putting themselves in the worst scenerios) (flying to regions and airports their airliner does not fly to) as well as practicing (in-house, desktop training depending on the fidelity of the aircraft and accuracy of the terrain/airport/region/landmarks) to maybe get more understanding of the capabilities of the new type they are training to fly irl etc etc etc

Then there are simmers like me. I want to personally get my commercial licence so I can fly for some private companies or at least, cargo airlines and fast track my way into a 747 flightdeck. I keep saying I should establish a YT channel given the minor frustration I feel seeing guys hit the deck at 250fpm and greater, calling it butter lol or who after years and years of flightsimming and having the time and energy to share it with the world, cannot turn while keeping the main gears anywhere remotely near the centreline, while remaining in the cockpit. Small things I know but

...just because YOU and some guys that YOU have found within the community may not take the sim seriously or on the contrary, DO take the sim seriously  it doesn't mean others should think like you and use it in the manner which you want to.

My pet peeve and disgust for this community is people who will stumble upon posts that are not in anyway aligned with THEIR usage and views...yet spend time to argue that those other fellow simmers are wrong g and should not this and should not that. If we all understand, that DCS, X PLANE AND MSFS has a vast rainbow of users, we can all coexist peacefully.

But then again...toxic RL losers who get a kick from putting others down do exist and unfortunately some just have too much time on their hands to roam online forums and gatekeep while protecting their lowlife personalities and traits onto others. Such is the world of FS in 2023. I thought it was already bad in 2013.

Oh I agree. And you can absolutely replace "Flight Simulators" with "games."

Because flight simuators are games, and games are played by a a massively diverse range of people.

If you think people using flight simulators for training makes flight simulators special, boy, I've got news for you. All sorts of games are used and have always been used for professional training. That doesn't make them any less games and doesn't make the hobby of enjoying them any less gaming.

As my father (who incidentally used to be an test pilot for the air force and then an airline captain) always said, "if you're not being paid to play a game, you're simply playing a game."

Just to bring an example among many, you can go check this movie in theaters in a month or so. It's based on the true story of a professional racing car driver who went from Gran Turismo to the real thing through an event organized by PlayStation dedicated to Gran Turismo players, and he isn't the only one. There are many like him.

And this is only one of many explamples.

PS: I've used flight simulators likely more seriously than most since Flight Simulation by Psion on the ZX Spectrum. I take my roleplay quite seriously. Dosn't mean I can't recognize that it's gaming.

If anyone thinks "gamers" don't take their hobby seruiously, they simply don't know gamers.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤦🏻‍♂️🤢

Allow me to elaborate as to why I am laughing at you while feeling that people like you continue to plague the FS community.

Gran Turismo has a marketing ploy which uses the slogan "The Real Driving Simulator ". This is nothing more than that as GT is NOT anywhere remotely close to RL driving dynamics.

Assetto Corsa, iRacing etc are all driving/raving simulators. Can you buy them in game shops? Yeah. Who are the overwhelming users? Real life racers, teenagers and adults with a strong affinity for REALISM. Not simcades like Gran Turismo or Forza Motorsport.

This is too easy maaan. What are you doing? What is WRONG WITH PEOPLE LIKE YOU man? Seriously, make your stupid, immature and dunce comments now. This is far too toxic for me and has gone far too long.

Some of you people are sick. Not all but many of the most vocal on here...are seriously lacking sunlight. What in the hell did I just read? THAT is what you chose to respond with? You didn't read my post did you NPC?

Alright bud. DCS, X Plane and MSFS are all nothing more than just basic games for simple minded folk like you to pick up and play. Avsim is ALL YOURS and us sane, SIMMMERS who like to use our purchased desktop SIMULATORS will stay mute while we occasionally return to be shocked and amused by the deplorable, lowlofes who have nothing better to do than to find negativity everywhere and pretend that they are perfect and that even when wrong, they cannot be corrected. Sick sick toxic....I can't even say what I'd like to say. My Gosh man. 🤮🤣🤣🤣 madness.

"Gran Turismo" hahahahahaha

In skies we roam, dreams ignite,

Simulator or game, does it matter in flight?

Precision's grace, reality's embrace,

Vibrant escape, a passage to chase.

In the cockpit, spirits alight,

Day or night, through clouds we take flight.

Discovery's joy, freedom's allure,

Bonds with aviators, passion secure.

Names matter not, love's eternal flame,

Realism and adventure, one and the same.

Digital sky, where magic sings,

Flight's joy on virtual wings.

You need to understand what I finally just did. Some of these people are really unhappy in life. So any means to argue even when they are dead wrong, they will.

Mental illness should be taken seriously. Yes my friend, these are casual friendly simulators but according to some no one should have a dedicated simulator. Not a racing, truck, train nor plane simulator can be simulators. They must all be nothing more than "games" and by that standard, addons to enhance IMMERSION" to SIMULATE RL...are pointless. I genuinely feel sick to know these......

....coexist in the same reality I do. FFS

Not sure anyone here coexists in the same reality you do, lol.  Seek peace,  Get help.

I would suggest not to make light of mental illness.

And yet that "marketing ploy" produced several successful professional racing drivers, while Gran Turismo sport had an esport championship recognized by the FIA.

Incidentally, if you think iRacing is used only by real life racers or people with a "strong affinity for realism" you obviously have never used iRacing, because its community isn't really much less diverse than any other gaming community out there.

If you think DCS, XPlane, and MSFS are the only games there with a high degrees of complexity, you need to broaden your horizons. There are thousands of games avaulable that have the same level of complexity or higher.

Tho I have to say, it's pretty hilarious that you're calling other people "toxic" but you have dropped into this thread to drop a carpet bombing of insults and personal attacks like some of the most toxic call of duty players. Having dealt with gamers as part of my day job for the past 20+ years, I can certainly say that you certainly behave like one, and one belonging to the the less pleasant parts of the gaming community.
