The US military disagrees with you. And heck, they're flying P3D...!

The military uses all sorts of training software derived from video games (ArmA and its professional equivalent called Virtual Battlespace come to my mind). Officially it's called wargaming or "Games for Training" program🙂 .

So basically only buy planes.  No sceneries etc and you'll be good for 2024.

Call me simple Iff u like, but iff its a game why is called a simulator, lol

We can do an analogy with cars. Is it a BMW or is it a car? If is it a car, why is it called BMW? I think it's quite the same here.

I.am pretty darn P'd off by people like you trying to define MSFS as a game because...people like you have a PLETHORA of aircraft gaming titles to choose from. MSFS, DCS and X-Plane are the only desktop simulators we have on the market and people like you wish to water it down by trying to relegate them to "its just a game".

It makes me sick with frustration.

I'm trying hard to understand the sentiment expressed here.

Words on the Internet have this sort of power over you?  Goodness, why?  You don't even know me.  Why would my opinion of anything affect you in any way?

Also, I'm pretty sure I don't need to be an "adult male" to speak for myself.  Semantics perhaps, but other genders and ages are capable of this as well.  My teenaged children are a good bit more articulate than... Well, than some posts I've read on here lately.  😉

The point I was making was that you're doing the same thing to other users of this software that you yourself admit to being significantly affected by others doing to you: you're ridiculing their desires and uses for the program.  It doesn't affect your life in any way if someone wants to fly a 747 inverted under a bridge in the sim.  You are extremely out of line to act as if either you, or your chosen software, is somehow superior to that.

Might it make your head explode to know that I've flown, and let students fly, inverted ILSs in an Embraer level D sim?  Sometimes, fun is ok even in real simulators.  😉

And I didn't mean to ridicule anyone attempting to use the software as realistically as it can be used - I often do the same myself, and enjoy it.  It's just a mistake to think that, in the end, it's for any other reason than enjoyment.  But isn't that a great reason?  Isn't that pretty much the only reason to indulge any hobby?

The anger is just... Really over the top.

This community has a massive problem of misplaced self esteem. Roleplaying pilots doesn't make you any more "serious" or mature, or valid, than any other dude roleplaying a warrior in Final Fantasy or a marine in Call of Duty.

As a matter of fact, I've often seen more maturity in these communities - at the very least in the ability to recognize that they're simply enjoying an entertainment-related hobby - then in the flight simulation community, which has massive issues with coming to terms with the fact that having fun isn't a sin.

Exactly.

Why on earth are people in any way upset with the concept that we’re all having fun plying a flying game.

I absolutely love playing this game/sim/whatever, it’s fantastic.

I’m really happy we’ve got a team behind it who are passionate about it and we’ve got so much varied content constantly arriving..the future is bright for FS.

You appear to believe that your airline pilot roleplay is any less roleplay than that of people roleplaying EMC helicopter pilots, firefighting aircraft pilots, or all of the "careers" showcased in the initial reveal of FS2024.

Here we're all roleplaying parts of aviation. Yes. You as well. And all of these parts have equal dignity.

There is nothing wrong with that. I think it starts to be an issue, when the devs take more care of those who "just wants to have fun" rather than those wanting more aviation-related stuff. Because there are less ressources available for what  group 2 wants. I really don't think someone would care the way other users are using it otherwise. But when stuff are missing and there are more efforts made to satisfy group 1, it can be frustrating for group 2.

Then Group 2 can just buy Group 2 Addons. Group 1 can buy more Group 1 Addons. And despite all of their differences both Groups can make use of the same simulator...sorry game....sorry, what are we calling it now?

That doesn't work for example for weather effects in clouds, density-altitude or accurate metars (with ceiling etc.), simply because there is no addon for that.

You can call your BMW your car or your BMW. Both are correct. It depends more on your view and the way you are using it. I noticed that those calling it sim are those who are more interested in the simulation of the real bahviour, duing those calling it game, just prefer to have fun without taking care much about other things.

Well, one day a nice developer will come along and make one...for use by Group 2. Will Group 1 also be able to use Group 2s addons or will they only be restricted to Group 1?

I hope you see the problem now. Thats the point that frustrates group 2. Waiting for that and at the same time many ressources being spent for stuff not important to them.
