Parallel 42 (chaseplane dev) statement on P3D v6

Doesn't anybody think that those numbers - at least partly - have to do with the market being new and thus totally empty?

Best regards, Dimitrios

P3d aims clearly at a different user base.

There are IMO four main types of loyal Prepar3d users:

.) those who have built their sim around P3D and have spent a considerable amount in addons;

.) users that have complex cockpit setups, with multiple monitors and PCs in a network;

.) users who make use of P3D for the visuals only;

.) professional users;

I've been using P3D mostly by purchasing monthly dev licenses. I test it, and then move back to other platforms. It's been that way since v3. I did buy an Academic license once, when it was released for the first time.

I would gladly try v6 if I saw it including either:

--> a more advanced flight dynamics model;

--> a more advanced weather model;

--> a comprehensive built in ATC system;

Apparently, and unless HiFi Simulations can bring some revolutionary weather injection into play, none of the above can be ticked, so, for the time being I think I will not invest in P3d.

No. Because PMDG then sold more copies of the 737 in MSFS than they ever imagined last year:

And within the last several months, the AN-225 for MSFS sold almost $1 million USD (it probably crossed the $1 million USD mark by now, that was reported a few months ago):

The AN-225 news was pretty recent. If you want to discuss MSFS sales further, we can discuss it in the MSFS forum.

Reading this thread as an add-on developer myself, I'm extremely disappointed.

@simbol is pretty much the last person who deserves to be called greedy, he has been updating his P3D add-ons for free for years and despite that wasn't even making ANY sales since last 5 months, he is still supporting his P3D products. This is an exremely unfair and rude response to him. The same person even called him having a family to feed an "excuse", which crosses all the lines. I'm also disappointed that the moderators aren't doing anything about it.

Simulators I'm using: X-Plane 12, Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020) and FlightGear.

Yeah, I am doubting I will get V6 for the foreseeable future either. Given that it seems like it'll snow donuts in hades before PMDG (amongst others) get their birds / stuff out for it I'll stick with the three sims I got.. 🤪

Yes, but it was only the one incident, so let's not blow it out of proportion...

Absolutely not uncalled for. If you state that time means nothing and working for free is a-ok it is 100% a valid question.

Stating that only people with families have the ability to think so is uncalled for.

Okay, but still, the market was still waiting for higher-end airliner add-ons even in 2022, wasn't it?

Sure, that's why I mentioned the AN-225 sales, which happened more recently.

It's only one incident yet it's still allowed to stay here, moderators should be doing something about it no?

Positing that time means nothing and that you should just 'work more' for free definitely begs the question if one simply has to much free time on his or her hands.

Ergo; a contextually valid question to the individual claiming that actually having a family to feed is no excuse for not working for free to cater to those that feel entitled to free stuff.

You are free to feel offended by this, but it makes my question no less valid.

I don't think the market is saturated with one good airliner, at least not as saturated as the P3D market. Anyway, I am perfectly willing to accept that MSFS has the larger market, I just think some of the numbers that are being thrown around should be seen with context.

He has indicated he has mental issues, maybe that has something to do with the leniency...

I think the //42 team is composed of just one developer, or at least a very short team. Hopefully they'll able to develop something similar to ChasePlane for MSFS. Their other MSFS products don't look attractive to me

I got the impression it’s a one-man band. It’s such a shame he’s denied access into the other sim since it’s difficult to imagine the default camera system is as sophisticated as CP.

It’s one of those utilities I deem mandatory for my sim of choice now. If it was to become available for the other sim it removes one of my red lines. But as long as it works in v5.4 then staying with that version isn’t a problem. With Concorde soon to arrive CP is going to be essential for the various internal views required.
