Potential improvements for sky colors

Sorry for the confusion, I was referring to the projector / OHU there which I assumed to be an LCD one, but either case it appears that most 737s use a HUD with CRT projectors, so a polarizing filter shouldn't be needed, and even if they used LCD projectors, the polarizer would likely be right after the LCD and long before the image arrived at the combiner. Then it seems like the hue shift is solely caused by the coating blocking the green light from the windshield.

Yep, it's purely the glass.  You can clear the HUD (meaning the projector is dark, nothing being projected) and you'll get the same subtle color shift from the glass itself.  It's quite subtle though.

I'm a fan of the colours these values produce.

Sadly, I've had to revert to the original MSFS.exe file (and the default sky colours). The changes meant Steam no longer recognised the -fastlaunch command to bypass the MSFS load screens, and some 3PD add-ons didn't seem to want to work properly.
I really want these sky colour changes in the sim by default!

You must have done something wrong, I don't have any problems with my addons, including Stripr which also bypasses the load screens. Which addons are giving you problems?

Just close the sim, change the file and get in again. With live weather, as in this case, if you aren't fast you sometimes get different clouds from the first shot because clouds are moving and METAR may change, but if using presets (as I did on the page 11 screenshots) you will always get the clouds in the same place if using the same preset.

I was wondering because even your live weather cloud formations look 100% identical in both screenshots.

As far as I know, everyone who uses live weather should have the same weather including woke formation.

Yesterday I was able to apply the changes successfully to the exe-file (Microsoft Store version, I followed the steps to decryptify it first) and now enjoy improved, more realistic sunrise and sunset sky colors. No more nuclear red skies. Love it.

Please, would you mind to explain how you did it? I know how to use HEX editor, but never been able to modify ms store exe.

Thanks!

In order to decrypt the exe file of the Windows Store version, you have to follow these simple steps, which were already mentioned here in this thread:
Found guaranteed solution for obtaining an unencrypted FlightSimulator.exe · Issue #1 · jet2code/arpc-injector · GitHub

After that I followed the steps described in the Video:
NEW Sky Colours for MSFS TUTORIAL - Free Tweak - YouTube

The only difference that I found was that each of the three entries that we have to replace with new settings, was found two time in the exe file instead of only one time. Needless to say, I replaced both because how ought we know which one was the correct one or both!?

I crossed my fingers and MSFS 2020 started up normal without a problem but new sunrise/sunsetting sky colors, which feel way more natural (less dramatics red skies).

With regards,
Ralf Maeder

Thanks a lot for detailed explanation. Going to try right now.

Edit:

It worked!

Used values 0,00254, 0,00159, and 0,000000. Quite a big difference, much more natural colours, thanks all.

Can you show a screenshot with the sun almost disappearing in the horizon like the ones I posted? Curious to see how it looks because you are using different values.

Edit: Decided to try the values used in that video and I like them, very similar to the ones I'm using.

Here a screenshot, link to the image on OneDrive. The browser did not allow a simple paste.

Would be cool to know which values you used in comparison.

I think this reply was for me, the values I used in my comparison are (0.00508 , 0.00318 , 0.0). The values in the video are ( 0.0027234, 0.0018310 , -0.000083096). I think using the ones in the video I see a little bit more green tint in the horizon when the sun is getting down.

Hi,

Is it possible for someone that has successfully performed this edit, how you run UWPDumper from the command line? Think I have everything else figured out.

UPDATE: Think I had the wrong uwpdumper, there was no exe files. Got it.

Thanks
