Who said that there was no improvement to come ?

But I am eager to be convinced that FS24 is not a layer of paint to hide the old crevices

I mean, when you put it that way...lol

They are making FS2024 to SELL more copies.  I’m therefore very optimistic that it will bring significant improvements to ATC, traffic, weather, performance and many other aspects of the sim.  No one’s going to pay another $40 or $60 if the improvements are marginal or non-existent.

The main reason they are making FS2024 is because they have to. They absolutely have no choice. I have about 1.2 terabytes of FS stuff on my computer. About 600 gigabytes in community and also in official. This storage space problem is worse on a console.

As Jorg said, FS2020 has become too big. They have to move the bulk of the program off of local computers and into the cloud. That's the only place so much data will fit. It's either that or growth for the sim soon dies.

ATC, traffic, weather improvements would be wonderful, but I expect such improvements to be slow. I also expect such improvements will come mainly from 3rd parties. Successful 3rd party developers may join the MS team. A salary from MS would be nice for them. But direct sales to themselves if can they produce a huge hit, may be so much nicer for them then any salary.

I don't know if large servers are necessary for historical weather. If they are, I doubt any 3rd party is wealthy enough to host them.

hopefully the cloud thing is optional. Not everyone has amazing internet.

Exactly. Lots of people will be hoping that is the case.

Even though I have a fast internet connection, I'd like to see locally saved cache actually work in MSFS2024.
Given the server troubles and peak period-induced performance problems, rather than stream, I'd be happy to download many TB of Bing Map data and PG of my frequent use areas onto my PC.

Firefighting activities in 2024 will include real-time fires,

We can't have live weapons in MSFS for reasons of political correctness, but we can have catastrophic events in the sim where real people lose their actual property and/or their lives in real time? Even time shifted, so everybody can participate in daylight?

What tortured logic has brought you to the state of equating ‘live’ (?) weapons with  bush fires?

For example the current fire season in Canada and what happened on Maui. I have a friend who has just been called back in to fly as air attack officer on another outbreak of wildfires in northern Alberta. Call my a hypocrite if you want, considering that FireFighterX was the first Lorby product ever. But ever since we were making the professional version of it, the seriousness of it all makes it hard to justify it as a "fun/recreational activity" in a flightsim. I didn't think that Microsoft would take that route, because of their strict policy about virtual bullets - that's all (=the route of folks watching other people's houses burn down in the sim in real time)

Lorby actually has a valid point.

So no more hurricanes and inclement weather, then? Time to crack down on all that insensitive storm chasing?

Jorg is so excellent in his role that I could almost take his word for it if I was still 12 years old.

He reminds me of Tony Blair.

That people lose their homes / get injured climbing mountains / drive their cars of roads is sad, but adding firefighting in the sim as a recreational activity is hardly making light of the suffering. Giving people guns to shoot airliners with in multiplayer is just asking for trouble, and nowhere near equivalent.
