A2A Comanche v1.4 released

They already had an external sound engine that works, and it wasn't a blocker to releasing the aircraft. You could see when the plane first released that there was a few xmls and a wwise file which shows they were experimenting with it so it was probably decided to just add it in after the release.

I doubt anything will be missed, wwise is a pretty powerful sound engine and A2A doesn't seem like the kind of dev to sacrifice fidelity

I have about 5 flights in the updated Comanche, and the sounds are great. \

Do A2A traditionally have end of year sales or are they one of those devs who don't need to and they know it😅?

Before MSFS released they used to have pretty good sales on the major holidays. I haven't seen a single one in years, though - even on their P3D/FSX stuff. Based on how awesome their P3D birds (still) are, I bought the MSFS Comanche immediately on release and didn't care about paying full price.

It wouldn't surprise me either way if there is or isn't a sale this winter, tho. They have a LOT of cash flow to make up for the last 3 years, BUT $50 is relatively expensive for MSFS addons, so they might do a testing the waters deal or something to see if they can attract a somewhat broader user base.

As a purely external armchair prognosticator, I'd think they should really be pricing at $40-ish. High enough to keep the justified Premium aura about it, low enough that many folks won't balk at the price for "just one" add-on.

In any case, it's well worth the $50 they charge right now. It's my primary GA aircraft and I can't think of another in MSFS that satisfies me more. Very much the same feeling as all the ones I have from P3D 🙂

I paid in 3 monthly instalments with PayPal, worked a treat.

Pico Neo3 Link VR - Windows 11 64bit, Gigabyte Z590 Aorus Elite Mobo, i7-10700KF CPU, Gigabyte RX 9070 XT OC 16gb (AMD GPU), 32gig Corsair 3600mhz RAM, SSD x2 + M.2 SSD 1tb x1

Saitek X45 HOTAS - Saitek Pro Rudder Pedals - Logitech Flight Yoke - Homemade 3 Button & 8-directional Joystick Box, SNES Controller (used as a Button Box - Additional USB Numpad (used as a Button Box)

It is well worth the price.

I am always surprised by people that refuse to buy quality planes as they "cannot afford it" and then proceed over a few weeks to buy a whole stack of throwaway cheap stuff they never fly that adds up to more than that quality aircraft "they cannot afford" .

Or folks who drop $50-100 on a meal and $5+ on a daily coffee. Thousands of hours go into a good aircraft, $50 is nothing. I can't really afford the former, but the latter is well worth it.

Did you personally speak to all the people who said they "cannot afford it" to uncover this or is it just supposition?
Don't forget, there are a multitude of flight simmers from around the World who live in countries where US$50 represents a significant upfront outlay for a bit of entertainment. The official MSFS forums recently had a couple of posts from simmers in Argentina and Turkey who have seen their currency drop like a proverbial rock this past year.

For those of us where $50 isn't bank-breaking territory, an A2A aircraft represents great value if you like bug smashing flying.

Be careful not to do this too often. Your credit rating will take a hit if you are using credit to offset relatively small payments.
Financial institutions will be querying why you are choosing not to make a £40 payment all in one go.

I suspect it's even more hours than usual for the Comanche as A2A had to develop and build Accusim2 (which is a significant chunk of a simulator in it's own right) so any price has to take that work into account as well.

Trust me when we say the ARS value plummeted horribly: official dollar raised 120% during the last 12 months, almost in line with inflation. And not only that, but the government here used to levy us a 65% tax for foreign purchases for end users  (stupida lex, sed lex 😛). Now this year they increased it to 75% and then 100%, so the overall increase was bigger. Since all addons are paid using cards, there's no way around this if your income is in pesos.

Street values did worse: the raise was 225%! But the "winner" was MSFS marketplace: regional pricing simply disappeared. The overall prices ended up close to US ones, but our incomes were left behind. I admit prices here were way too cheap, and assuming purchase parity, should be higher, but MS went overboard with the correction. All I can say is it was nice while it lasted... and hope we can vote the current government out at next weekend's elections 🙏

Anyway, while the situation here stabilizes, I'll have to think thrice before purchasing another addon. Too bad, because the Comanche looks interesting (despite its old avionics), but the $100 I'd end up paying (see above why) are a bit too much (almost 1/3 of my rent), even after having enjoyed some A2A birds in P3D.

Enough politics/economics. Biggest question I have: my typical mission for doing GA is loading the sim at the runway (usually SACO), take off, level off and fly to a nearby town (or just explore the surroundings) and then land and taxi to the hangar. No autopilot at all, just trimming (and keeping speeds, MP, RPM and EGT by the book). If I'm the mood, I'll do the flight back. No walkarounds, no maintenance, just checking if I have enough fuel for the trip back. Is this plane worth all that for my type of flying?

Sounds like you would be just as happy with a Piper Cub or Cessna 152.

Not to sound like I'm confronting Bobsk8 over his opinion , but Most of the time I too use shift-3, auto start and dark and cold buttons with A2A aircraft, just depends on time and mood. You just can't disregard the quality of their product just because you don't so "super real" flying all the time.

How do we update?  The version on the A2A site is 1.3.

We can only hope that the next plane A2A releases IS a Piper Cub.  Their J-3 was fantastic in FSX.  I'm not sure how much will carry to this sim, but in reality you have to be a much better pilot to fly a Cub well than to fly a Commanche well ;).

For a real test of pilot skills they need to make the T6 Texan for MSFS..

There's a saying in the warbird world with regard to stick n rudder skills: a Mustang makes a great trainer for a T-6, which makes a great trainer for a Stearman.  😁
