New Asobo Cirrus SR22, what's the verdict?

Thank you for the additional details Tom!

You mentioned the sidestick, and while I did have the chance to fly a 1hr full flight simulator session ( CAE ) of an A320, it was all from the FO position, so, no big deal, but I wonder how uneasy I would feel having to use the "left" stick 🙂

You had mentioned the torque, and indeed at least in your first takeoff the aircraft starts diverting a bit from the centerline to the port side, and I immediatley though it might have been due to the torque / slipstream effects 🙂

IRL I'm lucky to only fly gliders, but sometimes the "wake" from the tow plane makes us feel "torque" as well 😄

Oh wow, the 320 sim sounds fun!

I normally fly PA28s from the left seat, and while that is a yoke rather than a stick, it's still with the left hand so the left hand stick in the SR20 still felt fairly natural to me. I also have my desk set up with my joystick on the left so I sim with my left hand as well!

Yes torque is really pronounced on single engine props, and increases with how powerful the engine and how big the prop is. Even my usual 160hp PA28 you need a fair amount of right rudder to maintain centreline, the 215hp in the SR20 even more so. IMO this is something that has always been way under-done in MSFS. The only aircraft that seems to have got it right is the A2A Comanche.

Gliding is so much fun! I was lucky to do some in my late teens, before my PPL training, and enjoyed it immensely!

  • I finally had a chance to update and take a quick flight in the 22T. Overall, what a superb job representing the plane! It does fly largely by the published performance numbers which is great. Th

  • But there is so much details in the 3D model, it’s remarkable. The cargo door both of the butterfly cockpit door and even the little engine hatch or the parachute handle everything is design as if it

No, we goofed. 🙂 I know folks like to blame Asobo for all sorts of things, but we're perfectly capable of creating bone-headed bugs too, thank you very much. 😅 Again, as for sounds, they're bit f

Easy to try at home - just swap your joystick/yoke and throttle!

After flying "stick on the right" for a long time, I made the switch a few years ago when I started my SEP training. My control inputs initially felt super clumsy, but I had read that it would feel normal over time, and it did.

As most addons put you in the left seat, this setup also seemed more realistic. I now commit the sacrilege of flying gliders, Cubs and fighters with my left hand on the stick because I'm too lazy to move my input devices around. 😉

I've done it, and OFC I am sure it would work with practice, but in the gliders, and I've never flown a Diana - 2 and even that one has a right sidestik, I always use my right hand 90% of the  time, with brief variations to lower the landing gear or open "spraying" water 🙂

From time to time when I don't anything more to do, I practice using only my left hand ... but it's never the same ...

I have been living under a rock all this time it seems. I just realized that this plane is a WT one. How good is it? Is it realistic? I dismissed it just for being a default plane

Don't dismiss the default planes. Many of them are quite good.

I just flew this last night in 2024 and it's a fun plane but the mixture control was not working properly which I think is a known issue.  Everytime I would try to reduce mixture with mouse wheel it would go back to full rich.  If I clicked and drag and let go the mixture seemed to stay in place.
